What can brown do for ME?(PIC ADDED)

OK,

I honestly didn't want it, but my wife, bless her heart, behind my back, arranged a little surprise for me.

Yesterday I was coming back from my vacation in Orlando, when she said, "Why not stop at Washington Music on our way home?" Now we took the AutoTrain (AMTRACK), but that's a whole other story, so we were going to be 30 minutes from the store. I told her, "What the hell, hey Brian didn't get my Sterling 5 did he?" She told me no! So, with a bit of apprehension, I walked into the store. She tells me to go back and look at some amps, and then she calls me to look at something.

There before my eyes lies a brand new 2008 LE SR5! Now honestly, I REALLY DIDN'T WANT IT! I swear!! It was gorgeous! I mean I'm not a gold hardware lover, but this looked RICH!!

Needless to say, I bought it and it's finally here!

I wish I had more than 100KB of space so I can add a few more pics...

Needless to say, I bought it and it's in transit to my home in NY out for delivery tomorrow.:D

Congrats man, can't wait to see pics of that beauty. It's so great when your spouse/significant other is in THAT phase regarding our obsession, isn't it? Mine is in the opposite phase right now - on the verge of going postal and beating me silly with the next bass that comes through the door. :)

Congrats John.

It's mandatory to have a single H SR5 in your kit. That just looks soooo nice. That's the first SR5 '08 LTD Ed I've seen and like yourself perhaps may not have sought it out specifically, but oh my goodness I think I just got converted.

Brown finishes are some of my favourites, metal flake brown, egyptian smoke and sequoia gold. I think there's something about these finishes with black PG and maple neck that looks really kinda jazz clubby... So cool.

Oh, and congratulations. :D

Well I'm off to my first gig with my new 08 LE. I'm not used to the single H, and I hope I can get the nice deep thump that I can get with my HH's. Any suggestions which position I should use to acheive this?

Well I guess it's a bit late now but position 3 (toward neck - Series humbucker coils) will give you heaps!! Kinda like the big thump position 5 on a HH but with obvious tonal differences.

I don't think you will be dissappointed.

BTW. How did it go??

Rob,

thanks for the advice, although a little late ;) I did figure it out as we did our sound check that position 1 would work for me. The gig went great and I will have some MP3's soon since we recorded that night. :D I got some great tone from my new 08, and I also used my SR5 blue dawn with flats.

No problem. Yeah.... oh well... better late than never. I might have my position numbers back to front but did you go with the switch pointing toward the neck or the bridge?

I'm glad to hear it went well! I look forward to hearing the recodings. I am particularly interested in hearing the flats. I am toying with the idea of flats myself at the moment although I don't have quite the flexibility of some of the other forumites to chop and change in a hurry. I guess I'll just have to buy another Sr5 or maybe even a Bongo.

OT: Interesting I was standing and playing for around four and a half hours on Sunday and the last two hours were non-stop so a lighter bass did kinda sound appealing at the time. Maybe I should do some gym work and just get fitter!

OOPS! I meant position 3 toward the bridge. I will post a file with the flats from my SR5 Blue Dawn as soon as I get the final mix sometime tomorrow.
