What color is the silhouette displayed at this page (Guitar center page)? They don't even offer whatever shade that is, but I'd like to know because I think it's lovely. I was under the impression Vintage Sunburst was the only burst offered on the silo, and that's a 3-tone burst. The burst in that pic looks like a 2-tone burst. It also looks like a damn fine piece of alder, showing off a lot of grain.

I'm thinking a silhouette will probably be my next ball, but it might not be for like a year(!), so I'm not really counting on a 20th silo which is what I really want. The problem is I don't want another guitar with pickguard-mounted electronics - I'm an EE student and I like to try all kinds of funky wiring and I usually replace the pots and caps with parts I prefer. Then again a pickguard makes it much easier to mount extra switches and stuff...maybe what I really need is a custom 2-piece PG so I can remove the electronics without taking the pickups out or the strings off.

Maybe an Axis SS would suit me? I have to admit, I like the aesthetics of that a lot more, but I don't generally like high-gain pickups and my understanding is that the silo comes with virtual PAFs which are pretty close to my ideal humbucker (although I'm really a single-coil hombre in general).

Yeah, I really don't know what I want! I just want something that is a good counterpart to my SSS Albert Lee hardtail (which will probably always be my main axe). I want something for those sweeter, more airy, mellower, more resonant sounds. I'm not really after anything high-gain, I don't do rawk.

If you enlarge the pic, it states that it's Sunburst.
That pic is all over the internet and is one of the worst ones around.

Give me a second and I'll post some Sunburst pics for you! :)

But that's the thing, their picture doesn't look like Vintage Sunburst at all. I know it says "Sunburst", but that's kind of generic. Their picture looks more like Tobacco Burst to me...but that's not currently a Silhouette color.

I do like that Silo Special with the tortoise PG. The reds and yellows in the vintage burst complement the colors in the pickguard well.

It looks to me like an over processed picture thats not truly representative of the actual offering. Although you may like the result, I don't think it's accurate - my $.02

Well, whatever. I mean, I personally doubt that guitar is a vintage sunburst - there's no red to speak of for one. Second, the outer burst color is translucent all the way to the edge; every Vintage Sunburst Silhouette I've seen (and pretty much every "vintage" sunburst in general) has an opaque black border- the pics on this thread demonstrate that. It honestly looks like some kind of 2-tone burst to me, like tobacco burst or even honey burst, but it doesn't really matter since GC doesn't actually sell it and I wouldn't buy it from them if they did; I have a local guitar shop who gives me way better support anyway. :)

Of course, the other thing is that even if EBMM did offer a burst on the silo it wouldn't look like that since I've never really seen a piece of alder with grain like that. The whole thing is sort of weird.

Does it sound like I really even want a silhouette in the first place? I mean, I think I would really like the sound.

There is nothing wrong with the Silhouette at all, unless it's just a preference of the color. EB did make some kind of a Honey Burst finish on the Silos, but that was discontinues. You can find them on Ebay here and there so if you want to wait around untill one shows up. And the grain of the Alder also really depends on the pick of the draw, kind of like the birdseye maple on the necks. You have a lot of choices, and of course the best thing is to try them out and see which suits you the best. You can always change the PUPs on the Axis (SS) to the virtual PAFs or whatever you want. I personally changed the original pups on mjy Silo to BREEDs which is hotter as you can tell in the clips Fogman posted of me :).

OT: Has anyone read some of the comments people have been recently posting about those clips that I dont really play that? It's just ridiculous.

Even though the color chart doesn't show it as a choice for the silhouette, it looks like it could be honey burst. Maybe it was an option at one time, but now discontinued? That pic could be quite old. 2cents.

You definately used to be able to get honey burst and cherry burst silos but cannot any more.

It seems to me that if you actually prefer the aesthetics of the Axis SuperSport but are generally a single coil fan you should perhaps consider the Axis SuperSport with MM90s. That way you can get the Honey/Cherry/Tobacco/Vintage burst options over a great figured maple top with p90 style pups and non-pickguard mounted electrics just like you want.

Hope that helps.
