My DG Petrucci w/ Piezo won't be done till mid/late November but I want to get setup so I could play it through something other than my Road King II. What do you Piezo owners use at home?

I'm currently looking at acoustic amps like the Carvin AG100D or Fishman Loudbox.

Thanks.

Fender Acoustasonic Ultralight head + Acoustasonic Ultralight Stereo Enclosure. I like it very much.

Does anyone use a small PA at home. I've seen some small packages by Nady and Fender that look good.

I'd use an SWR Strawberry or California blonde myself.

I have the piezo (aftermarket add on) on my axis, and thus far, it's not too useful to me. But I'm sure the EBMM set up is better though.

I only own one amp now - I've thinned the herd of equipment since most of it was rusting

I use a Roland Cube 60 with an additional 1x12 vintage 30 cabinet. The piezo sounds great through the clean channel of that amp. Actually, my acoustic sounds great through it too - really clean amp.

Cranks too on the rectifier setting.

>^..^<

Edit - ever try the piezo only through a tube f*ender type blues amp? Sounds really cool. As close to SRV as a Petrucci will get.

Hadn't thought of the keyboard amp.

Has anyone tried recording with both magnetic and piezo? I'm curious as to how that would end up sounding. I'm hoping to put it to the test this weekend on an electronica/trance track, where I have no business adding guitar (but will anyway). Maybe the piezo would be set with a lot of trailing echo effects? Not sure yet.

At home it goes through my PodXT on the "piezo" setting into a keyboard amp.

Hmm. I've got to see if my Pod XT Live has a Piezo setting.

It's "PiezoAcoustic" on the XT, preset 2C (thank you Internet). Not sure if it's the same on the Live.

The Pod can't touch my Guytron, that's for sure, but through the Keyboard amp it does sound pretty darn good. Much better than through any of my power amps/cabs.

regular old amp

At home, I just send it though a regular Tech 21 amp. But at gigs, I make sure to go direct into a PA. Personally, I wouldn't use an acoustic amp often enough to justify buying one. However, I do take FULL advantage of the stereo pickup and with the MM splitter, I have two amps running. Sounds killer, even with no horn.

Acoustic guitars are for sucks anyway.

I've really enjoyed the results from both an Ultrasound 30 and a Crate Telluride.

The blended tones that you can get between piezo & magnetic are very interesting...if you haven't recorded like that yet...well....you should!!!

I play through the small home PA. the chain is:
DI box (Ground Lift hum reduction for High gain amp settings with the mag pups)
Mixer
Crown CE1000
JBL Eon 15's

The video I did uses the mags and piezo running together.
the sound was recorded with the camera microphone.

Thanks for including the video link! I can see where you can get interesting results this way. The highs are more crystalline (is that the word?). Always fun to see someone wailin' on a Ball.

Do you really need a mixer or is that just for tone shaping. I've been considering a Presonus Acoustiq pre through a solid state power amp and then a 2x12 cab.

I'd feel a little strange about plugging straight into the crown. It's there so I use it.
