i use my Acoustisonic Junior 80 watt combo home ,and live i go to the DI Box and into the P.A and back through the monitors, and usually i always have a blending of the 2 in my sound,.... i front the band(sing)and do a lot of rythym and fills so i can be using a little dirt on the mags but the piezo is coming out clean it adds to a 4 piece band

I'd feel a little strange about plugging straight into the crown. It's there so I use it.

Are there horns or tweeters in your cab or just a 15 driver? I'm thinking of getting a Presonus Acoustiq preamp, running into a solid state power amp and then to a cab with a 10" speaker and a horn.

I guess my problem is that I don't really understand why the Piezo amplification is so different from the mags.

I suppose I could go DI (I have a Whirlwind IMP 2), into a mixer, power amp and then the cab. I'd just hope I could get a rackmount mixer.

Alright, I think I'm leaning towards something that will server multiple purposes for me. Tell me what you think.

I already have a Whirlwind IMP 2 DI box so if I need one, I'm already set. From there, I think I'm going to use a Soundcraft 4 channel mixer into a Carvin DCM power amp and then out to a single small Carvin cabinet.

This will allow me to run my Petrucci's Piezo and modellers into the mixer and out the cab. I can also run the record outs of the mixer into my soundcard for PC recording.

I assume that this setup will allow me to use the blend control on the Petrucci when running through my Road King and small PA to mix a bit of both the Piezo and the mags. Right?

acoustic amp or powered speaker or PA.
Must be a FULL RANGE setup; not just a guitar cab.

I used powered EV all the time. Sounds huge. It has a built in mic pre and 2 ch mixer w/ 2 band eq. (EV SXa250)

That's what I needed to here. I suppose in that case, a keyboard amp would work too?

Wouldn't be my first choice, but yeah, it'll work decently well.

Got it.

The system I outline above will be the best solution because of how versatile it will be. I will be able to play my Piezo through it as a mini PA, I will be able to use the mixer as an interface to my PC soundcard for recording and I will be able to run my modellers into the PA as well. In fact, I could run one output to the PA cab and one output to one of my 2x12s and blend the two. That means I could even play the Petrucci through the modeller and blend Piezo with modelled tones.
