What do you all think of the MM90 pick-ups. I am currently in the process fo building a collection of Axis SS guitars and these intrigue me. I like the 5 way switching on the HB model because you get the fender sounds. I like having all out rock and twang on the same guitar. How do the MM90's sound. Good for rockin' out? Are they low or high output soapbars?

I have an Axis SS MM90 and I love the beastie - such that I'm on the lookout for an Axis Sport MM90 to add to my pile o' Axes one day... The custom MM90 pickups are beautifully voiced: they're not particularly hot pickups, but they are sensitive and dynamic. Their voice is pronounced and vocal without being overly shrill or aggressive. The Silent Circuit significantly reduces the hum produced by these single coil pickups (so long as the battery is good - note to self: unplug the guitar before placing it on the stand), without a discernible effect on the tone. This guitar is like a Tele on steroids, and responds very well to Tone and Volume control changes, with the ability to mimic everything from balls-to-the-wall garage rock aggression to country twang and Ricky jangle depending on the pickup selection and control settings. It even does a lovely warm jazz tone.

I love mine, too. the pickups allow for a nice twang on the low strings without gettin too harsh on the higher strings. great adaptability for several musical styles. I've played live with it alot from country to funk to hard rock and it works great. the neck pickup doesn't quite have the articulation that I'd like for hard rock/metal solos, but it still sounds great and is to be expected of most p90 neck pup's. also, I hated the out of phase middle position...pure quack, and I don't mean the good strat kind. :D easy enough to rewire that, though, and it's fixed. not sure why they didn't go for series, but it's whatever.

the silent circuit has a trim pot in the cavity to adjust the level of reduction. I really like that, cause you can adjust for the balance you want of hum reduction and tone. there is a compromise in highs the more you turn that up, which is to be expected. I get plenty of shimmer and noise reduction at the same time, so it's a great circuit, imo.

What Jimi said!! First guitar I've ever had where I work the tone knob during songs/sets. On the possible down side, it will expose all of your weaknesses and slopiness as a player, it is so responsive. I realized I suck, but man, I look good (it's the guitar in my avatar). :D
