First off, i know theres a strings section but it doesnt look like it gets viewed as much as the bass section, plus i just prefer the opinions of my bass brethren...

Im sure this is a question that gets asked a lot, but i didnt see it in the strings section so figured id be safe to post. What exactly is the difference between reg, extra, and super slinky? I read that all 4 string EBMM basses come strung with Super slinky, but id like to know what the diff is. Is it simply the tension for feel? ie ive heard people like the supers on EBMM basses because the pickups close to the bridge and they like a little give in there strings. That said, i kinda prefer my strings to be fairly tight even though i still play toward the bridge. is there also a tonal difference or is it mostly a feel thing?

Gulp...

Thicker strings mean more tension, changing the feel. Also, the higher mass of the string means that with the same string height you'll get more output.
I find the slinkys very consistent tone wise though, so my take is that if you step up a gauge you'll get higher tension strings with a little bit higher output.

I think just the gauges. I just picked up some Hybrids to try out and that was due to the 45-105 gauge. I have a bass that the nut needed replacing and was cut for 45-105.

Off the top of my head the regulars I think have a .100 E and the Supers have a .050 G

I've used other makes and the 105-100 difference was moot.

super: 45-65-80-100
hybrid: 45-65-85-105
regular: 50-70-85-105
power: 55-75-90-110

they give different tension and the increased mass of bigger strings will/should give more output from the pickup...

i prefer the regular ones on my sr4´s and super ones on my 5 strings. for the bongo i prefer flats ;)
i urge you to get one of each and experiment with which ones you prefer. its a matter of personal taste and once you find em they are like your favorite pair of jeans. they stick with ya forever ;)

Can these different gauges (other than super) fit on the compensated nut without any modifications?
