Question What gauge strings do 'you' prefer on your BFR or JP6

Curious to know what gauge strings you all use on your JP6 or BFRs? I've always used d'addario 9's on all of my Ibanez. They just seemed right for me. Now that I've been getting into EBMM, I've been really liking the strings that come setup on new JP6's (I believe that they are EB 10's).

In any event, I got a new BFR recently and did a setup on it with my typical set of d'addario 9's since I have a box set of them and they have been my goto choice of strings for years. The BFR tends to sound a bit tinty and the strings are way to 'loose' feeling, as opposed to the same brand/guage set on an Ibanez. Maybe it's just me..

Was curious to know what gauge (and brand) you all use on yours? I also have a 10 pack of super slinky's, but they might be the same result as they are 9's also. I'm thinking of slapping on a set of EB skinny top heavy bottoms on there today, but let me know what 'you' use, I'm only curious.

I know exactly what you mean, I like EB nines as bendy as possible usually, but the JP just felt totally wrong with 9's, 10's all the way.

I prefer Ernie's to d'Adarrio, I find them that bit brighter.

When I bought my BFR first a few yrs ago they came set up with 9,s at that time as JP himself used to use 9,s then too but in the past 2 yrs all the JP,s come setup with 10,s now.
i had to change the 9,s to 10,s myself though as the 9,s were too light and elastic like rubber bands.have never looked back since!

First off they must be Ernie Ball strings, even bfore I knew about MM guitars I used EB strings!
Now I use 9-42 on all my guitars, JP,Al's etc. and I use all the diferent ones, slinkys,RPS,Rock N Rool, Coated etc.

i use EB 10's on everything. I used 9's for 10 years or so but when I got my first JP it came with 10's. liked it so much i switched over to 10's completely

I have a set of 10's floating about and I think l I'll give them a go.

i have always used 9's in the past…gotten so used to them and like others have said when my EBMM came with the 10's I realized it feels right and sounds marginally better. So to compromise I am currently experimenting with silky hybrids 9-46. I'm liking them so far

I think that I just found the holy grail!

I have on here a set of skinny top heavy bottom EB 10s. This gauge is perfect for my BFR, and it just feels good to my fingers. The .052 low E string give me something that I can latch onto and really grab those E string bends, and the .042 A string, in reality is/was my E string on the 9's, it's much more in your face with depth. The piezo sounds very big on the bottom, yet articulate on the top. The guitar with some dirt on it really gives me a tight growl. Amazing what a simple change will do to a guitar. I'm gonna let the neck adjust to the new tension, and see what happens in the next few days. So far, no buzz, nice action and this is what I call perfection!

Keep your gauges coming in, I just want to see the dynamics of what all of us knuckleheads are using..

I use to play 9`s but I really like the feel of 10`s that are on my JPX 7. Since I got the guitar I have it in standard E but I prefer to play in E flat so I may bump up to 11`s. Has anyone else done this?

I use 9s for standard tuning on my JPs. I dabbled with 10s for a couple years in the early 2000s but switched back to 9s. They are perfect for me. I use a thick Dunlop Sharp Tortex pick and I pick very lightly. The 9s just feel right to me with how I play. I also have better control over bends and vibrato which is very important to me. And I've fully converted to the EB coateds. They last forever and sound better to me!

I prefer to play in Eb too, and you shouldn't have a problem with 11s.

#2221 EB regular slinky on all my guitars.
on the 7-string, i change the low B to a .59 because the .56 seems to loos for me.
on the dropped D i use regular slinky plus a .50 for the low E/D string.
and on the dropped C i use Beefy Slinky #2627

filing the nut may be requiered when you're moving to 11s. (they are just too thick for the little slots)
