What inspired me to get good is the same thing that inspired me to even pick up the bass... being in a band. I kind of started playing bass by accident. My sister moved out and behind her she left a bass. I decided to pick it up and I'll never regret that decision. Being in a band is probably the most fun I've ever had. I love music and I always will. There's nothing better than writing stuff with your friends and watching it come to life. And I've never been more excited than when I get on stage and play bass. That's what keeps me going and it's what motivates me... I just love it.

Two answers

When I was 17, I just loved the bass, playing it, the sound, playing in a band, and I wanted to play well. I practiced, but not in an organized way, and had my own odd technique.

Then I had kids, didn't play for a while.

When I came back, I realized I could hear more, hear better, and set out to get to be as good as I "used to think I was" (but wasn't). That's led to playing in different bands and different styles (rock, funk, jazz) and studying theory.

Now, music is something where I know I can always keep getting better and expanding, even if I can't run as fast etc etc. What's cooler than that!
