As Marty Friedman would no doubt ask you... what exactly is talent? Marty has become a huge inspiration for me, but most of that isn't from his playing at all.

It's his outlook on things... he makes it all not look so insurmountable. Would you believe he knows very few scales? He has a very unique method that I've adopted, and man in the past month I've come a long way, not to mention it's become about 10 times more fun.

I'd recommend anyone check out his perspectives and ideas: ::Marty Friedman Official Website::

He's done more for me on guitar than any teacher ever has, and doesn't even know it :)

So, I'm going to guess that you picked up "99 Secret Lead Guitar Phrases"? If so, it sure sounds like it was worth it. If that's what has helped you out, I might pick this DVD up and check it out. I wonder if my local GC has it available?

Actually I haven't gotten it yet, I'm thinking about it though. Go to his website and check out the section where he answers fan questions. He says these same thoughts repeatedly ;) He's truly a genious man, and seems like he's a great guy. I wish he could know how much he has helped me as a guitarist, and my putlook on music in general :D

I'd say go ahead and get it... It's probably great

^ Don't anyone take this the wrong way, but I find that a bit saddening

to each their own LOL

<<<reality....money buys instruments, instruments buy me free time to slack off...slacking off for me = playing time, playing time means more gigs and recording spots which makes more money, money is necessity which is a........ back to top>>>

I can understand all those that have the " my art/music is my passion and sharing that is the goal of my music/art" but I got into music for 3 basic reasons, in this order:
#1- it's fun
#2-girls
#3- money

The fun ,good times, friends are all a given in music...as well as tons of other group based activities............group based activities.......hmmmm...#2 comes to mind again...oh well that's for another time:D

my guitars, great melodies, joy, pain, being sad or happy, the love of my life near me, all my family.... it's a little bit cliché, but it's true for me

The 2 sides of my mind, my girl, life in general, experiences. Mostly it's about a deep feeling I experience from watching/hearing some terrible news, to having a great sunny day driving, and sometimes memories.

Music FLOWS through me, but I have a hard time writing lyrics... actually let me correct that I have a hard time writing a love song, love songs are meant to be cheesy I know... but not stupidly uber cheesy :p

I thought it would be cool to see what inspires people in their playing, writing, makes them want to practice more, etc.

It can be literally ANYTHING under the sun, so let's hear it!

the good, the bad, unfortunately.....the ugly and tell those stories.

I think everything inspires me, good things, bad things, happy things, and sad things. As long as music is from the heart, it's all good, no matter what style it is.

i heard a great quote one time, and I don't remember who said it, but it goes like this..."There is no 'good' music or 'bad' music, just whatever moves you.

Live music inspires me to practice and play.
All of the above (except $) inspires me to write.

If the $ wasn't there, I would still be involved in music. I can't help it.
