Ever since I started playing, I've been naming my guitars and basses. Even if its something as simple as "Old Blue" (my starting bass, Squier P).

There's a story behind this post and a question. I recently got my 3EQ Stingray less than a month ago, and I had a name picked out before I got it--Miranda. Due to a store mix up, I ended up with a different (but much cooler) paint job that I fell in love with. I don't feel like Miranda fits this bass anymore cause it looks more like a 'guy' now than a girl. Maybe 'her' personality is just different?

ANYWAY, what are your basses named? Ever had a similar situation?

My Bass is called 'Bongo'.

I think I've done quite a good job coming up with that name....

My 20th SR5 HH I've named Thor - after the Norweigan god of thunder...

My Bongo 4HH I named Mitch, for no apparent reason, but hey - I was a little drunk @ the time...

My incoming Bongo 5 DDII HHp... to be determined...

I'm with AD on this one:

The Bongo
The Big Al
The fretless
The 5 string
The 6 string
The Jazz
The upright.

They all know who they are.

I give them numbers in order of purchase, so No.1 will be the first one I got out of the ones I currently own. If I sell No.1 then all the numbers are automatically shifted in my database accordingly, hence No2, becomes No.1 and so on...

Yeah I know it might sound anorak-like but I keep a database where every bass has a record, with fields such as date of purchase, price paid, date last string set (make/gauge) were fitted so I can keep track of average strings wear, also the date in which batteries were fitted so I know how old the batteries are, a brief description of the bass make and model together with mods carried out, pickups, wiring, pots etc etc... it all helps when it comes to moving them on.

The black one, the red one, the 20th Anniversary one, the Music Man and the acoustic. I don't really give them specific names like I have my children.

All of my EBMM basses have names. It just felt right to name them; they deserved it...

Pearl (for the white pearl pickguard, but also for JJ), and
Wendy. Wendy was going to be Goldie, because she's gold... but then I remembered that Goldie is dead, and since Wendy is her twin, I went with that.

Once upon a time I thought my black SUB should be named "Line-X", because of the finish. Now I just call it "Rocker", because it is my go-to bass in my classic rock cover band. Fits so well with that genre. My other bases are non-EBMM, so they don't count.
