I just received mine and to my demise there was no set of tools included with the guitar and no instruction manual on truss rod adjusting and intonation. Should there have been a set of tools included? :(

Nope - there shouldn't be any tools or instructions. The basic setup instructions can be found on the FAQ from the EB main webpage. As far as tools, you can adjust the truss rod by inserting a 3mm allen wrench in the truss rod wheel. Other tools you might need are a 4mm allen for the bridge posts, 1.5mm allen for the bridge saddles and trem arm tightness, and a phillips screwdriver for the intonation screws and back panels.

In the case (others please correct me if I am wrong), you should have gotten a set of trem springs, a silica pack, keys, a cloth, trem arm, and maybe an ad or two.

It seems it can be hit or miss. When mine arrived, I got the guitar, the trem bar, a polishing cloth, a function diagram for the pickups and controls and the warranty card. I know some ship with a couple of allen wrenches and a extra spring for the trem.

Wow, I got 12 sets of strings, a full Snap On toolkit, a 4 hour lesson with JP, the entire DT back catalogue, the unpublished Sterling Ball autobiography and a cheesecake.

I got a book on how to lie badly on internet forums too :D

Mike, for the most part you are correct. However, someplaces don't include the tools, or the cloth sometimes. It all depends on where you buy it from. As long as you got the trem arm I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can get the allen wrenchs at Walmart if you really needed too.

As for the truss rod wheel a very wise man, we won''t mention any names {OC} recommended to me to get a small screw drivers and grind the head off of it, it works as the best truss rod adjustment tool there is.

Hope this helps, Glenn |B)

That's a funny post, now I'm not trying to be a goof here, but is this the first thing that jumped out at you when your PET arrived? I mean you get home, open up the case, and there before you is a fully loaded EBMM JP7 (SEVEN), and you post about missing tools...man did you atleast take it for a test drive :D

Again don't get me wrong, I understand your point, and I'm not trying to be a snot, but that is a beautiful guitar, and regardless of the missing tools, how does she feel mate? How does she sound? What has she done for you? Has it turned your life upside down? What's the action like? How's the Piezo sound with a seven string? What's your gear like? What kind of music do you play? I could go on...

Oh and I noticed you have an angry smiley posted with your title...you're angry then

No tools?!?!? What do you call that thing in the case.....I'm talking about the guitar......LOL.....

Man, no need for tools. She plays great out the box. But, tools for setting up the axe are very cheap and readily available.

Also included should have been Penthouse magazine, an enchilada, and a skunk.

Possible that guy was out sick that day.

My JP6 came exactly as MikeVt described. And it was still sealed in the box that it shipped in when I cracked 'er open.

I think I posted a message just like yours back then. But I've had mine for about 7 months now and haven't needed a tool yet. (except my wire cutters to clip strings when changing them...)

The forum guys are right, the FAQ on the EB site has all the info you'd want to know about tweaking your Petrucci's setup. Plus, if you use the 'search' function in the guitar forum, you can uncover the pearls of setup wisdom that Jongitarz graces us with every so often.

Well, when mine went back to get the neck replaced, Jon sent me a note saying he would hunt me down and make me listen to Barry Manilow records for hours while stuffing foam peanuts in my mouth till I died......but, I guess that's not a tool.....hehehhehehe.......just kiddin' about the note, but he did say he would kill me if I did that again! LOL

My case came with a Dark Green Guitar in it. :D

Maybe the tools were left out for a reason . . . Some people aren't too mechanically inclined (other than drummers) and we don't want to go encouraging them . . .:)

Man the burrito must have been messy to clean up.

I guess it's hit and miss. When I received my JP from my local dealer, it was still in the box and had three allen wrenches and an extra trem spring. I wouldn't have considered it a big deal if it hadn't though. I've accumulated a pretty good collection of allen wrenches over the years.

I didn't get any pics of her before I went out of town. I couldn't put the axe down long enough to take a picture. I am away for roughly two months, so when I get back, I'll take the "After pics".
