Yes, it's a pre-amp... it's the pre-amp that will eventually be in front of my VHT 2/90/2

It can replicate just about any tone you can get... It's PERFECT... 4 channels, low mid and hi fo reach channel... 5 band global EQ and ALL TUBE... *lick* I love it

Well, I have 3 of them...
Just a slight correction, it's 3 channels.
It is the preamp section of a VHT Ultralead and CLX head w/EQ.
Very very versatile preamp. When teamed up with a VHT 2/90/2 it's a stereo Ultralead.
It will cover just about every style.

Here's a real real bad recording I slapped together for someone else that wanted to hear what it can do. No rhyme or reason...just horrible wanking...
It's terrible playing and recording, but what can you do.
This was Steve Morse-->VHT GP3--->VHT 2/90/2----> VHT 4x12.
Recorded with a single SM57 into a crappy sound card.
It's totally dry with no EQ engaged. I just hit a TC Electronic chorus pedal on one of the clean parts.
The guy wanted to hear as dry as it gets...

Once again, my apologies for the horrid playing.....
Steve

Thanks. It sounds very good, indeed, dude. Wonder what - for example - Rocktron Xpression would add. Did you play gain & distortion up in eleven?

No, the gain was between 12 and 1 O clock....

I would add one more thing - it has one 12ax7 tube used as low power output stage - a similar thing as H&K used it their Cream Machine. Very cool feature.

Exactly, That's why it's just about the only rack/tube preamp that actually sounds like a head....
It's all about the communication with the power section.

To me it is very important to get very low bass end and GAIN! Valvulator might be just fine...
BTW: Does anyone know who can rip some more kick out from Soldano Hot Rod 50+ heads? I notice that there´s company named AmpCrazy, who makes these modifications.

Thanks man. I appreciate the kind words.
The VHT stuff is like that. Very accurate and articulate. They are not forgiving at all. If you flub, you will definately hear it.
They actually make you play more accurately...LOL

Yes Steve, i have same opinion. I listened that few times again amd your fingerwork and VHT sounds very nice. I could not to play such low gain that you´ll do almost flawlessly. It would be nice also to know, how VHT reacts about all-up-to eleven - configuration.

So can you gear heads explain to me exactly what this unit is/does...cause I am so impressed. Does the amp itself have these tonal capabilities, or is it the preamp. If it is the pre amp, what can you use in conjunction with the preamp? I guess we are talking major moola here, right?

The GP3 is strictly a preamp. It is the exact same circuit as the preamp section of the VHT UL and CLX heads...
The 2/90/2 power amp is the power section from the UL head, and the 2/50/2 is based on the CLX power section.
You will get completely different sounds using different power amps.
The GP3 simply creates the sound, then the power amp will amplify it.

There is a control on the preamp that is called DYNAMICS...
This tells the preamp how to communicate with the power amp.
This is my main rig...........

Here's my mini rig that I recorded that crappy clip with.....the G major was unplugged at the time........

I'd never play anything if I had that much stuff ... all I'd end up doing is messing with the buttons and knobs. ;) You must have the discipline of a monk.
