Hello all,

My buddy brought over his Pet yesterday and left it to me to play and tweak over the next few days. He is still not at the point where he's comfortable adjusting things like action, truss rod, etc. My Pet is the shop with Jon right now getting a new neck, so I only had mine for a few days before it got sent off. :(

Anyway, the nice thing is I get to practice setting up my buddy's guitar before I get mine back. :D Which is cool!

My question to you guys is what are your typical action measurements on your Pet? I love low action and so does my friend, so I typically set up all mine low.

Low for me is (neck adjusted to nearly perfectly flat):

1mm at 12th fret on high E... 1.3mm - 1.5mm at 24th fret on high E (last fret clearance will vary from guitar to guitar)

1.3mm - 1.5mm at 12th fret on Low E... 1.5mm - 2.0mm at 24th fret on low E (again, this may vary from guitar to guitar).

Once I got my buddy's guitar down to this level (using the individual saddles and not trem height, of course) I did notice a high fret at the 11th. Just on the D string, so the crown is probably uneven. I used a radius gauge to set the bridge, but I might go back and try raising the D string a tad to see if I can eliminate this buzz.

Otherwise, the guitar sounds pretty good, but a little "deader" tonewise than with the action a little higher (which is to be expected). I usually make this sacrifice because I like the action low.

What are your settings (Pet or not) and/or tips for low action?

Ryan
