Hello,

I have an ernie ball pedal but I can't tell what kind it's supposed to be. There are no markings or model numbers. There's no discontinued pedals that look like it so I took some photos in the hope that some one knows what it is.

My guess was volume, but there is only one jack present and all the volume pedals I see have at least two.

Thank you,

E

Thanks guys!

I've tried using it as an expression pedal in an eleven rack, tried using the different settings: normal, reversed, m-audio etc. No dice.

I've also tried using it in an FCB1010 foot controller with no success.

Maybe the pot is bad?

Thanks again,

E

You'll need to be careful - some expression pedals use a TRS some use a mono.

I wanted an additional pedal to plug into my Line 6 FBV shortboard to control my Pod xt.
I built it from an old volume pedal and it uses a mono cable (as does the original line 6 expression pedal). So try it with both types of cable?

I also have a FBV shortboard and a Flextone III and I tried this pedal there as well. This is what I found:

Pedal into FBV via standard 1/4'' instrument cable - heel position completely shuts off all audio out of the Flextone

Pedal into FBV via TRS cable - heel position completely shuts off all audio out of the Felxtone

Note this isn't gradual like turning a dial, it's an all or nothing situation.

I'm really a novice when it comes to wiring and electronics, but wouldn't all three posts on the pot need to be wired to the jack for this to work as an expression pedal?

Thanks again!

Ok I'm on the case.
I'll get my expression pedal from the rehearsal space and check the wiring for you - it really is simple because I can do it!!

I'll check back later. Line 6 gear if controlled by an EX1 foot controller uses a mono cable.

In the meantime this thread gives some (but not all) technical info

OK I used a 22k linear pot which has 3 solder tags.
The centre tag (wiper) and left tag on the pot are bridged together using the wire from the tip end of the jack socket.
The sleeve tag of the jack socket goes to the remaining (3rd)tag on the 22k linear pot.

It's as simple as that.

Spudmurphy,

Thank you for checking into that for me and thanks for the other thread to go over.

I'm going to grab another 1/4 jack and some more wire and try re-soldering the connections today. This seems like it would be a good start for a beginner.

Cool - I'll take some photos and post them in the next hour.

OK - here's the really old pedal I used. (the sticker on the front is just one I knocked up quickly)
expressionpedal2.jpg

Here's a shot of the wiring
expressionpedal1.jpg

1 (blue wire) goes from tip of jack socket and bridges across the pot at 2 & 3
4 (brown wire) goes from jack socket (which also happens to be bridged) to pot at no5 (which isn't clear on the photo, hence the arrow!)

Hope this helps.
