What kind of stand?

I need to get a few stands for my basses. What do you use? What do you like?

I find the headstock hangers don't work very well with Bongos - at least mine don't. I like the size and idea of the ones that support the bottom with a little back rest - but I have no experience with them. Are they stable enough?

Get the small Hercules ones. I have 3 of them. They rock.

It's made by Hercules and works very well with the Bongo.

Note the little articulated fingers at the top...when you put the bass in the stand, the fingers flip closed and lock it in place automatically. Pick up the bass, and they release. Clever as hell.

Since you're a fellow Bose user, it may interest you to know that Wallacher has taken the Hercules locking head gadget and put it on a special hanger that fits into the slot on the back of your tower. That's not exatcly what's shown here but it is available. Go to http://www.wallacher.com :

I have had one of those little folding stands like you describe and it SUCKS. I gave it away. Awful, awful, awful.

First of all, the Bongo's shape means that the tail pin winds up on the floor when it's fully opened. If you tie the legs together so that the Bongo doesn't rest on the floor, it's so narrow that it's unstable.

there's nothing to keep the bass from falling out of the stand if gently nudged.

In use, the bass leans back so far that the stupid thing takes up way more floor space than it has any right to (i.e., you can't put it near a wall or amp...you have to put it a couple of feet out away from any such obstruction).

I do have the original Wallachers for my Bose set-up. I will look into the newer head design.

I use one of those rack types that hold a few basses and the neck and bottom supportive single stands as well.

My preference is stand with neck and body support.

I have been using the Genesis GS-200 stand for several years.

Sturdy, Locking legs, fold out foam wrapped body supports, neck support with a locking strap.
Collapses in nice small package, great for gigs.

+1 for the Hercules

I just received one of the mini ones:
Hercules Guitar Stand 402B

very portable, yet very heavy-duty

the only gripe is that the little hook that the body sits on is close to the bass boost knob. luckily, the hook is adjustable, so you can swing it in between the bridge and knob

but once it's set up, it's solid

i say go for herc,
i bought a K&M small foldable one but one of the arms keep nudgin one of the tone knobs on my ray,
so if u go for one of them make sure u try em out first!

Another vote for the Hercules stand - I have a three-way and it works well for two or three basses.

Interesting observation from the current pole results and the overall recommendations of Hercules stands.

Majority pole shows peeps like a bottom of base support and back of neck.
(definitely my preference)

Yet, as far as I can see, and looking at the Hercules products, Hercules does not manufacture a product that supports bottom of bass (guitar) and back of neck, except for the Hercules GS405B. The GS405B does not seem to be what peeps have been talking about who recommend Hercules.

In short, the pole and personal recommendations are not supporting each other.
