No problem at all. WD have been in the pickguard business for a long time.

Tort would be my choice, though I'd opt for the darker, brown tort
before red tort.

I have an even darker tort on my black Ray but no pics yet.
This is my old Sterling w/brown tort, tho this one was on the light side . . .

I like that. Looks good, but my Trans Orange Fender Jazz is getting a brown Tort and want them to be different. I really am digging the abalone too. So I'm probably gonna go with Abalone for the Sterling. I do want an HS Sterling in White, and that one would def get a brown tort guard.

I've a black Sterling with rosewood neck & an abalone guard (as pic in the first post) and it looks great - would highly recommend that.

Have also just picked up a Trans Red model with maple neck and a black guard which I'm not convinced about - anyone any thoughts on what would be a good replacement?

The abalone is rich and deep looking. I think it's really an excellent choice for the otherwise understated (but oh so elegant) black.
