I have a 2010 Music Man Bongo 4 HH. I use all gauges on Ernie Ball Nickel. To me, the light gauge has a more punchy sound. You would think heavier would be, but to my ears they do.
I just put on a set of D'Addario 45-105. They feel similar to EB
My question is: Any Bongo Players use different strings other than EB and which brand and why?

You're lucky to have such a nice Bass my friend! If you're considering trying other brands of strings besides Ernie Ball, the only brand that is comparable (In my opinion.) Is DR Strings. They have a lot of different types and gauges. You could try the DragonSkins or maybe the Pure Nickels. As far as gauges, I'm with you when it comes to lighter gauges, with bass I find you want less resistance (unless you're picking). You can walk faster (or run :p), bend, and slide with ease. also; try the cobalts if you haven't already.

I don't. I spent years experimenting with other brands and went back to Ernie Ball. They last forever and sound great. They also rarely ever go out of tune too.

I seem to go back to EB strings. There is a difference in Sound compared to D'Addario nickels. They feel similar, but EBs sounds cut through better.

I have just bought a new bongo 4 HH and prior to it , on my stingray i used EB slinkys medium . Any heavier gauge and they give me sore fingers , not to mention less sustain and punch . Ive also experimented real cheapies too and found they can also sound good . Then again im going thru an AMPEG SVT 3 and 2 svt classic 4 by 10 cabs . The bongo will be fitted out with flats soon as a trial .
