Hey guys.

I am wondering what strings would be best for my bass. I am playing a 5 string at the moment, but plan to make the move to a 4 string jazz in the very near future, and I was wondering what strings and setup would be best for my tuning. My band plays in AFCGC (high to low), and I am going to cut out the high A so it just goes FCGC. Should I whack some 5 string strings onto my jazz, or should I go for a thicker gauge 4 string setup. If so, what gauge?

Thank you in advance.

I'd just get a set of POWER Slinkys if I were you. One of my basses has the E string tuned to C (for the heavy band I'm in) and it works a treat without being too floppy. Alternatively you could actually string your bass with EB Flats (I've used these in the past) as the higher tension means you won't have any trouble with floppiness either. And EB Flats sound surprisingly bright, somewhat like their Slinkys, though must admit I've not tried any other flat string to compare them to. I've heard some people use a 5 string set, but occasionally you may need to file the groove in the nut to get the B string to fit in the E-string slot of your 4 banger. I'd rather avoid filing my nut :)eek:) so I stick with the Powers or Flats.
