Pzo had the best idea. IMHO.

There needs to be more of that going on in the world even if it is a fender you are donating.

**** that, you haven't seen the state of the guitars at my college, they have fender mexican strats, they're real nice compared to the crappy classicals at my old school, and the fenders are STILL beat up, covered in dints and there's green crap all over the fingerboard. It's disgusting, donate a squier or something that's made to be abused.

I say keep the P, slap some flatwounds on there and keep it as a backup. Or sell it and buy another musicman as a backup (maybe a sub) :D

There's nothing wrong with a nice P. I've got a '66 on the way as we speak. It will get played, same as all my basses, EBMM or not.

But in my case I thought I had to have P and bought several. Sold all of them cheap as they didn't excite me enough to want to play.

Not that I think anyone has to share my view.

Totally what basses you like and keep is your deal and your heart.

If you aren't ever going to play it putting it into a school can be the difference between the world having another musician or another gang member.

imho

I have a set of flats that I did have on the P at one time and can put them back on. What are "group flats"? Never heard of that.

I do love my P bass and i also really dig my J,however my Bongo just puts a big F*** off grin on my face everytime i play it and my SR5...is just amazing.

I am going to sell my P bass to fund my gas for a fretless ray or sterling.I would love to keep it but it just sits in the corner looking pretty so its time for it to go.I will still keep the J because of its been with me nearly 20 years.

have to say i would rather buy a sub or a mex fender to donate.

I've only ever owned F****r J & P basses, until my recent Sterling purchase.

I was more than happy with them, but somehow the MM sounds/feels 'different' (?? difficult to describe why, but it just feels RIGHT).

This doesn't mean i'll be getting rid of my f****rs, because they're still part of my 'family'. :)
