It was back in 1983 when I was a freshman in high school. It was in the gym/auditorium in front of an entire catholic school body (kinder through eighth grade). Before we started, I remember looking through a hole in the curtain and seeing all of the seats full and people standing lined up against the walls - I was terrified (but in a good way :) ) The "special effects" that we brought to enhance our stage show consisted of smoke balls that were lit and dropped in coffee cans around the stage. We opened with The Hellion and closed with Number of the Beast (I'm surprised we didn't catch any heat for that from the school but it could have been they just didn't understand the words).
I had just recently found the tape of the recording that I had made of the gig and was listening to it while I was transferring it to a CD & it sure did bring back a lot of memories. For the entire gig the guitars & bass were out of tune, the drummer would start and stop at the wrong times and the singer mostly sang in the Key of Off. Good times, Good times. :D
