A guy who works at the local music store has a vintage marshall super lead tremolo amp. Its a plexi with tremolo, 100watts. Good condition with a power brake... he's selling it for 650$!!! no body has picked it up yet... he's been trying to sell it in the news paper for a year now. What would you do? i want it but the petrucci fund is priority right now. Im going to be running into money from school soon... 1200 bucks... just enough to pay off the petrucci. Should i offer him a 100 bucks to hold it for me and pay it off that way? I reallyw ould love to have that amp... perfect for the amazing cleans my 5150 doesnt have. Id do a stereo setup sort of... let me know what you think.

God bless,

Tony

Well, I've got no use for a 100 Watt RMS head at all, but I will say this: Marshall amps are known for many things, but their excellent clean sound isn't one of them. If I were you, I'd sit on my hands and get the Petrucci and then decided where I want to go from there...

bump what JIMID said, if your looking for great cleans, get a JCM120, if you want a vintage marshall then get the head, otherwise go with the petrucci -

well... i played a custom boutique plexi amp by some guy thats in upstate ny and it had the most amazing clean. It was warm fat and chewey but crystal clean... had that little wing/wind cries mary kinda of warmth to it.... it was a 50 watter through a genz benz g flex cab... amazing. So since then ive been like "well plexi's sound great for cleans.

im definetly getting petrucci, no question. I just want to bea ble to have a dnamic clean with great headroom and no breakup. i realy dig the fender deville clean too. Idk... have you ever seen steve stevens rig? 5150's, plexi's, fulltone effects and EVH Axis's. i relaly dig that rig concept. Steve Morse as well... he's using 5150's but idk how he gets such a great clean out of it, unless he's using somthing else.

anyways... i asked the guy more about the amp. Its a 69-70 model. Not too sure if its definetly a plexi but its a 100 watt tremolo for sure. ive looked them up and found cool clips of them with THD hot plates and they nail the brown sound... not like im definetly trying to achieve it ... but... its a nice sound none the less.

if you can suggest a decent head that has the characteristics im looking for it would help me out a lot. Ideally i would like to run two heads and two 4x12 cabs.. or mabye a 3 cab setup for left right wet and dry in the middle... idk... maybe it isnt practical though. I have been liking the peavey classic 50 and would really like to get my hands on the discontinued classic 100 head. The peavey classic series has great gain and cleans as well. Just let me know what you think. im really thinking of this as more of a long term kind of gear aquisition process, nothing immediate. thanks guys

God bless,

To be honest.....that Marshall probably sounds great dirty. The clean tones, the guys are correct in saying the JCM120 is the way to go, the Fender Deville would work nicely, if you want the clean the 4x10 might work a bit better too. Good luck on you search.

Well. If it is what you say it is. I would buy the amp, check it out see if you LOVE it. If yes well congrats.... if no you can probably sell it for twice what you paid in a flash! on ebay.
As far as clean goes, A Fender head, or JC120 is the way to go...

My 2 cents:cool:
