Reflex 5 HH. Will still get you a good SR5 approximation, but offer loads of other sounds you can't get from your other basses.

Thanks for everyones input. Lots of great insight being shared and appreciated.
It appears as though the B A is in the lead. And most are recommending I not miss out on a roasted model. I was looking at a maple board just because my other boards are dark. And I already have a black sparkle bass. However you guys are making good on convincing me otherwise. :D
A single H instrument will get it done. But I'm thinking a multiple pickup solution is the way to go...unless Simone can convince me otherwise.
I thought of a fretted Bongo6 but I really like how special(re. Different) my Bongo is from my other basses.
I'm really intrigued by the Reflex HH suggestions. Haven't played one tho.
I did play Pauls B A and was really impressed.
So far I'm torn between a BA 5SSS and a Reflex 5HH, either roasted.

As you're doing improv looping live, maybe a Bongo 6 fretted (roasted neck) - the Reflex 5 would give more sound options, but less note range - difficult choices eh?

The Big Al SSS is great for the looper thing. I did a little loop myself at the first day when I got my Big Al. It has so many different sounds directly at hand.

You can listen to the track on our myspace: CRAPSTAR on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads, the song is calles "Big Al First Shot", since this is what it is...

Fortunately, ebony and maple are sonically very similar, so whichever you choose (standard or roasted), a lot of it will be how you feel about the aesthetics.

Seems to me that you'll get a very similar range of tones from a Big Al to a Reflex. However! BA has a full mahogany body (very different tone from your anything in your current stable). It also is a significant amount less on the price scale than a Reflex.

My vote goes to a fretted Big Al, either in roasted black sugar/ebony or a standard model with maple.
