I refuse to answer - There are good points for both sides.

Now compare a Stingray or a Jazz to say a... Warwick - That would be a different story.

I will say that a Stingray is definately built better than your average Jazz bass.

Fender's MIA Deluxe basses are equal though.

Hmmm. I can certainly compare my Custom Shop 64 Jazz to a Stingray. I've also had two pre-65 Jazz basses and remember ONE of them fondly.

You're definitely comparing apples and oranges, though, or, if you like, Marthas and OJs.

Both basses are pretty snarly, which is probably why I mostly play either a MM or a Jazz.

Here's a clue, though - I take one of the Bongos as my main bass and guess what goes as backup?

Hint: sometimes it's even another Bongo.

I agree 100% - Actually my two main basses are a Stingray and a Jazz :p

I think StingRays are much better than the jazz. They have a compressed sound(so they are very defined in a mix), they're fuller etc etc. I really love jazz basses though. Probably my next bass is going to be an American Jazz. I'll get the S-1 switching system to get best of both worlds(Jazz+Precision that is). The problem is Mr Bovine has put me in a great dilemma with his Custom Shop Jazz......

NOOOOOO!!! Get an American Deluxe P or J. The extra money is well spent!!!!

I've got the Quilted top model --

-- the model without all that QMT stuff is a lot cheaper but the sound and the feel are the same.

Now you just did a very bad thing! You put me in an even greater dilemma! You see I tried a Deluxe Jazz quite some time ago and it was AMAZING. It also has an 18v battery I think........

Yes it does have the 18volt system. It's quite nice too - the signal is ultra clean!

You mean 'no hiss'? Because that is a great problem with my Ray and a 6 string I used to have.

Well there's always some degree of hiss which can depend on your amp, etc. But no, they're "noiseless" single coil pups - very quiet.
