Around the time of the 25th announcement we got a peek at some nifty lightweight tuners with four-winged keys. Renderings only.

Anyone know whatever happened to that project? Wouldn't surprise me if it got bumped down the priority list with the incredible pace of development in recent years. The Gamechanger alone would keep most teams far more than fully occupied, never mind the steady stream of new models on top of it.

Just curious....

I'm kind of glad to hear they're not gonna be replacing the original tuners on all instruments with those new ones. Don't get me wrong, they're neat but I like the classic tuners.

I'd forgotten about those tuners, just goes to show how much innovation comes out from EBMM. One question, will they also be offered in a 19mm larger version? ;) I will run and hide now....

I'm very pleased with standard tuners on my Sterling and with modern lightweight tuners on my reflex!

My opinion is that only MM bass which need modern designed tuners is Bongo!
Design of Bongo is still in front of competition and "vintage elephant ears" just don't fit on Bongos!
But that's just my personal opinion!

Hello...I never thought of it, but I agree with you completely. Good idea regarding the Bongo

I love the angled tuners on my Big Al 5. Love how they shove the string downward toward the headstock.

Wish I could get them for my SR5.

Here's the new tuners! They sport a 20:1 ratio and very lightweight. They are about half the weight of the current tuners (They will take off about 1/2 a pound on a 5 string). They still have the tapered post to help force the strings down to the headstock and they have an ergonomic twisted peghead. They will be on Bongo's, Reflex and Big Al's coming soon! -Enjoy

The new tuners have a substantially smaller footprint on the back of the headstock and therefore you would see the old screw holes from the Schaller tuners if you tried to replace them. I know it's a bummer that they can't be retrofitted, but now you have an excuse to buy that new bass!

Eh, I wouldn't mind seeing a few extra screw holes. Saving 1/2 lb would be cool, too. Hm.
And the last thing I need is an excuse to buy the Bongo 6 HH. Of course, these aren't out yet, so the temptation isn't unbearable. Yet.

I think I speak for all Bongo fans when I say: we NEED this color! I would definitely get another Bongo if they offered this color.

P.S. The new tuners really work well with the Bongo's shape as opposed to the traditional cloverleaves.

Some of us are quite accustomed to left-over holes.
Other than that cosmetic glitch, the new ones fit
and can replace the elephant ears ?

Randumb Thawt:
With the reduced footprint, now there oughta be enuf
room on the back of the headstock for BP's autograph
on certain really special limited run basses .....
