My favorite combo (believe it or not it isn't because of Petrucci):

Hey Colin,

One reason, and probably the most common, is that it gives it a different sound "away" from the original manufacturers head/speaker design format.

Hi Colin,

oh well...

The fabulous "try-and-error" game. I played around with a multitude of cabinets and at first stuck with a Marshall 1960a cabinet from 1983, but then got my hands on that wonderful Hiwatt cab from 1973 with original Fane speakers. That one just sounded sooo amazing with mein Diezel Einstein that I was sold from that moment on... Sounds between cabs just differ soooo much, even when stated to be out of the same woods and equipped with the same speakers. Guess one just has to find the perfect match to get what you want.
...the eternal quest for tone :D

And being sort of a gearhead, I never stop trying different gear, combinations & so on... ;)

"Der Weg ist das Ziel!" :)

Cheers

Axel

The Mesa Boogie [Insert Amp with Substantial Gain here] and the JP are made for each other, I swear.

20-th Silo and the ... :)

Honestly, I've yet to find any modest amp that doesn't sound great with the 20-th. I love the tone of my TOL 100 Egnator with it!

Also, I absolutely dig how great my old silo sounds with most of the classic amps - stratty and then some, it's pure tonal pleasure.
