Just ran across a Pink EBMM EVH on Ebay and of course it got my attention:D. Then I read down and he says its been refinished:(.The thing is I have a original serial number verified pink EBMM 1992 pink and not sure how I feel about this. On one hand its his guitar he can do what the hell he wants to and even openly says its recolored. But on the other hand it kinda rubs me wrong because its going to put into doubt the validity of ANY color especially the harder to find ones made in limited numbers.Yeah I know about verifying the serial number which I did before buying mine but how long if not already will it take to knock out some plates with actual serial numbers easily found on these forums
Am I making something out of nothing? Whats your take?

Personally, I would want to keep the original factory color regardless of it's condition. Some folks consider that mojo. In addition, I love the faded EVH purple look. Those faded EVH's that are just about to turn into a natural, but that's just me. As for refinishing, there must be sentimental value in it, but to each his own.

This one guy's honest declaration of the condition of a guitar today does not put into doubt yesterday's validity of any other color. They were just as doubtful yesterday. Buyer beware is the golden rule. That seller is not the first to do refinish a guitar, nor will they be the last. Their honesty is as correct as we wish every EVH seller would be.

I understand your reaction but I think it is an unnecessary overreaction. Brought to it's illogical conclusion - should people who refinish a guitar not state that fact for fear of devaluing other seller's guitars that are original? No, of course not.

And chill the heck out, all of you. If somebody can't express an opinion (or a reaction to one) without resorting to incivility, I will have them over my knee and firmly spanked faster than they can say "Jack Robinson". Got it? Thanks.

HaHa I need a good spankin! But really I did not mean to come across as being a ass. The seller I have seen before and the last thing I wanted to do was cast any doubt on his honestly. But to be honest he cannot be making any money anyways. In my collection the EBMM related guitars are 6 EBMMs,4 Wolfgangs and 2 set neck custom Wolfs.IMo Any EBMM halen in that shape even faded out can go for at least $1600 and up.I have no clue what a refinish cost but that plus Ebay and Pal fees and I doubt he will break even. I own a green Axis tribute so I have nothing against that. Not really all that worried about my resale value. In the 35 years I have been playing I might have sold 6 guitars and thats because If I dont play it I do not like them collecting dust in cases. On every one I lost my ass. So why does this even bother me? I dunno it just does and I ask for opinions and I am getting them.....

Those are my two guitars , and I am VERY clear about what they are. I have owned 50+ EBMM EVH's and value the brand as much as anyone. And you are correct .... I am losing my ass on both of them , as the refins cost $600+ each.
However The reality is that I am pretty much a bass player these days, and I figured that someone else that DOES appreciate them for what they are , should enjoy them. The refinish on both are AMAZING !!

Islandboy rings a bell..... I bought one of my pink EBMMs from a guy in Fl who had injured his shoulder... maybe even a blue... Anyways, good luck with the auction.

Yup .... Both of those were from me! That shoulder injury is what opened the Bass door for me, and now I guess its home.

I just had no idea these guitar could be refinished in any color.I figured the signature on the headstock would be colored over and prevent it. At that cost I can see someone refreshing their color or even changing it but even if they had bad intent or trying to make a big profit it would be difficult.Good to hear you are still playing. I am still looking for another nice blue quilt or black.

I think if somebody is honest about the fact they are re-finishes, there is no problem. They are not being falsely advertised at all.

Personally, I don't like this 'relic' mentality and would have my EVH refinished if it did not cost as much as it does!

I actually would prefer a refinished EVH... That way I can get the color I want and not worry about playing it. I'm actually kind of interested in the Green since I sold my Green EVH years ago.

if you're buying it to play and thats the color you want whats the problem? they'll still hold value to any evh guy just not as much as the colors they're refinished in. its a great way to get the color you want and be able to play it. Richard is an excellent guy to deal with btw

Do you feel that way if someone VH stripes a guitar? We are just talking about a guitar. The guitar market is truly "Buyer Beware". In the early 1960's, no one was "collecting" electric guitars. They were too expensive and still relatively new to the world. So how is it that there is no shortage of mint condition early '60's vintage guitars?

Buyer beware as always. At least he was honest about it. I would put him in the good guy category just for that. I personally don't believe in refinishing guitars or basses. I like the battle scars just the way they are.
