Hi! I'm looking at a used Steve Morse model from 2019, but the seller doesn't know if the frets are stainless steel or not. Does anyone know when Music Man started using it on their guitars?

Hi,
They started offering SS Frets around 2012, I believe the 2012 PDN Limited Edition Run was the first time they offered it, and then it became standard on most Models.
The JP Series got SS Frets after that for sure, i believe the Luke still has regular Frets, though i might be wrong. I don't have a Morse, but I'd think they got Stainless around the same time as the Petrucci Models.

Based on the 'internet archives" the frets on a standard Morse model were nickel up to 2020 and they switched to stainless steel in 2021. So that 2019 will have nickel frets.

Yep, a standard 2019 Morse would have regular nickel frets, unless it's some kind of special run. Post a photo if you need further clarification.

Ok, thank you! I've gotten so spoiled by having SS frets on my other guitars that I never want to go back, so I'll just pass on this guitar then. You probably just saved me some money as well. :ROFLMAO:

Oh thats interesting to know!
Did Steve Morse not like the Stainless Frets? I always thought the Luke was the only one that didnt get them.

He said in an interview that they finally switched over to SS after refretting his main guitar so many times, but that was just speaking about his personal guitar. But the new Morses now are supposed to have SS as well, but I couldn't find something about exactly when that started, which becomes useful when looking at the used market.

Hah! Yeah- that's a nice one. You could always have it re-fretted with stainless- I've done that with a few (once the old ones were worn enough to justify it).

Or buy a new one! The new Morse/Y2D colours are pretty cool and they have stainless.

Yeah, it is tempting, but I think I can be patient. I've really wanted one of these though.
I was considering getting a brand new one as well, but the import tax in my country makes it seriously expensive. 25% of the guitar's prize and shipping is added on top of the base cost of the guitar and the shipping, so it gets quite ridiculous with high-end instruments.
