Okay, this may sound very silly, but how do I know when to replace the battery of my 'Ray? Simply when there's no output anymore...? Thanks. Sam.

itll start sounding crappy ... that's the best way i can describe it. I usually get packs of 9V batteries that have those ghetto little battery tester strips on them ... i stash those in my gig backpack and check on the battery life before shows and some practices.

Usually when ur battery is almost dead your bass sounds like your using one hell of a distortion pedal.

If it has been sitting for a while unplayed I'd change it, or if I'd just bought it. Otherwise you will know when to change it as the tone will become very distorted and crappy sounding. It won't necessarily go completely dead but you'll know.....

I use a multi-meter and check the voltage. Somewhere around 8.8 volts is where I will replace it. I use only Duracell and have only changed one since last June. Carry a fresh one in the case but rotate it out with the guitarists who seem to use batteries in everything.

BTW my SR 5 has never sounded crappy.

I would recomend Duracell. We have found that different battery companies have different sized batteries. Some are too large for the battery compartment. We found that Duracell is more consistant, and they fit our boxes
