The only way is to rfinish, but You don't wont to do this. Basswod doesn't look good. Really, there is a reason that Bongos are painted.

just a note:

EBMM does NOT have a custom shop as the guys above noted. So getting something that's not part of regular production is not a possibility. If you want a special color (natural etc) you're gonna have to buy a Bongo and have a refin pro do it. But, the Bongo is basswood so the grain may not be pretty like ash etc.

If you want to order a Bongo w/ standard-available options then you can place your order at any official MM dealer

There are some pictures of a few refinished Bongos floating around on the site. Can't say they are very good looking (IMO). Now the few factory 1-offs that are around are awesome (and NOT basswood).

Yep, and they're too heavy and not properly balanced. One of the reasons I really appreciate the Bongo is because it's truly a "form follows function" design; which translates into (a) what does a bass guitar have to do and (b) what's the most effective way for it to do it? Basswood works because it's got decent tonality and it's light; just not a pretty wood. I suspect BP will continue to try recycled milk cartons and other materials (Ampeg has an acrylic bass, but the tonality of acrylic isn't very good..), but in the interrim, basswood is what it is. Just not a pretty wood.
