I'm just wondering if there is an Ernie Ball/Musicman that has the tone , or pickups of an axis with a slightly wider neck , maybe similar to a JP neck?
Can anybody enlighten me ?
Thanks !:)

As far as I know, the pickups of the Axis were exclusively made for the instrument and can't be found on other EBMM guitars.

Seahawk,

Just to double check, you mean wider, like in fret board width, i.e, 1 5/8th vs. 1 11/16th, not in the back profile thickness.?

I believe the Morse will get you there on at least the neck. I think the pickups on all the guitar line are substantially different though.:)

Quote from the DiMarzio site:

What type of pickups were used in the Eddie Van Halen MusicMan Guitar?

These pickups were only available as original equipment on the EVH MusicMan guitar. MusicMan replaced the Van Halen guitar with a very similar model called the Axis, which uses the same pickups. The closest-sounding pickups we offer are the Air Norton™ for the neck position and the Tone Zone® for the bridge position.

So, when we're talking about the width of the fretboard (from low E to high E), how is that figure represented in the MM specs for each guitar? On the EBMM site, there is radius, width, and fret figures. On some models, the "fret" figure may state "High Profile - Wide" or "High Profile - medium". Which of those figures would relate back to the width that SeaHWK51 is asking about?

The fretboard width measurements are given in inches at the at the nut and at the last fret. The Petrucci is the widest at 1-11/16" at the nut, the rest of the line is 1-5/8" at the nut, so nothing would be as wide. Most of the line also measure 2-1/4" at the last fret, the exceptions being the Axes and Luke at 2-3/16"

The fret figure describes the size of the actual fret wire itself. The radius is how flat or rounded the fretboard feels. Th higher the figure, the flatter the fretboard i.e if you took a 2-1/4" section from a circle with a 15" radius (Petrucci) it would have less of an arc than that same 2-1/4" section of a circle with a 10" radius (Albert, Axis, etc). Profile - C, D, V, etc. is used to describe the contour of the hand side of the neck.
