I need something that gives that soft, bouncy warmth on occasion, but don't want to buy a Precision. I would rather stick here. At the moment, I own an HH Sterling and HS Stingray. The single coil on the Stingray doesn't quite have the "meat" I'm looking for and the Sterling is just a bit edgy. Could there be another?

bongo with flats!

its awesome tonewise.. fat round sound, but not limited to just that.. add a twist of treble and you can slap it as well ;)

those are the answers I sort of expected. Do you think the HS or HH Bongo is the way to go? I had a single H before, but that is not what I consider round. On the Ray I prefer the single coil vs. the parallel wired humbucker.

Round tone? A beat up, worn down 1978 StingRay with mutes up and flats on.

Seriously? A classic StingRay with a 2 band EQ, and probably flatwounds (though I think that's not necessary), rolled off the treble a good deal and a bit of bass boost. Very round, very nice. At least in my book. But who am I do know what "round tone" is :D

HH Ray. I have the HH Ray 4. I've never owned a more vesitile bass. It gives you the sonic 'footprint' of the classic tones out there, Original Rays (bass not the pizza), Js , Ps...etc.

I prefer the Alinco to Ceramic for the 'airiness', which is the only way for me to describe it.

With the 5 way switch, it's pretty damn easy to dial in your tone onstage.

The Bongo HH, front pick up solo, with a tad of tasteful tone tweaks, again for me and this is just from the 4 hours or so over the last 5 months playing them in GC will give you similar results, you'll just have to dial it in.

Warmest Bass Tone Regards,
MK

I have a SR and a Sterling HS. Both with flats and can get a nice round tone out of either. Roll off the treble and eq your amp a bit.
