Help!

So far I know the Petrucci isn't. Too thin neck for my taste. Neither the Axis, no Floyd for me. :D

I'm into all kinds of music, but mainly I'm about rock, blues, progressive and similar. :) I like Luke's sound, Mr. Morse's, Vai's, Satch's, Santana's, SRV's, Kotzen's etc. I'd like a guitar that can give me a range of sounds, from vintage low-gain crunches to hi-gain distortion. I'm open for suggestions, I know I need a bridge humbucker and a tremolo. And locking tuners! :p

I know Tristan gets all kinds of fantastic sounds out of his Luke and Silhouette, I just don't know which recording is done with which guitar. :D

I'm gravitating towards the Luke and Morse, both seem very versatile, but the Morse doesn't come with a non-Floyd tremolo. What about the Silhouette Special? How does it compare to the Luke? In that case I'd get HSS with tremolo. I'm thinking that maybe the Silo would even suit me better 'cause of the non-V neck. :D

The plan is to get some EBMM in late '07. If not, I hope '08.

Thanks!

The Luke and Morse are great, the Lukes neck is no problem for me (and I too dont like the JP neck...)

You should also consider the Axis Supersport as I think it'll do everything you would need....sounds killer and has a good range of tones from HBuckers to SCoils.

Junior, the Silo Special HSS rosewood with trem wolud be perfect for you. Great authentic clean sounds plus a great rock humbucker. Really cool tones. The Luke is comparable, but i think the silo pickups would be safer for you, the EMG's arent to everyones liking. The V neck on the Luke is pretty comfy, but the regular silo neck is just great. I dont think the Morse is for you.

Good lord Junior !
After what you described above - GO FOR A SILHOUETTE SPECIAL H/S/S with a MM Vintage Trem !
You just cannot be disappointed with that choice - it really should cover the styles you named perfectly. OK, I changed the pickups on mine, but that was just because it didn't come with the originals when I got it...
The neck is a nice work of artisan balance between fast playability and a good chunky and stable feel.
Don't hesitate and try one out - I know they might be harder to find in stores these days than probably a LUKE, but have a look !!!

You WILL dig it !!! :D

Silo special all the way, plus you can change the pups if you dont like them, on the luke you really cant change the pups without ruining the guita - about the morse, for some reason i find the body to be uncomfortable for my right arm -

I'd say try either of the two silo models (and even the 20th), the luke, and the morse. Maybe the Axis SS too?

If I had lots of money, my first choice would be the Y2D. Not really my ideal guitar to the last detail, but I just love it. Just need to try it. :D This way I'm forced to consider some of the more affordable models. Right now I'm considering the Silo Spec, Luke and Morse.

Silhouette Special - seems versatile, pretty standard neck / body shape, vintage tremolo bridge, pickups and everything. Probably the most affordable of the three. (?)

Morse - when I first saw this guitar, I fell in knew. Never fell out, though. Still, I doubt I can get that "vintage" neck pickup sound with the humbucker, + no vintage tremolo.

Luke - kinda reminds me of the Silhouette Special, but has that hard V shaped neck that didn't fit me the last time, and EMG's I haven't tried yet. (only played it unplugged) :(

I think the Silhouette Special best suits your requirement (but also try the Axis supersport) but I understand your dilema, you want a guitar that really knocks you out and the Morse is doing that to you. I think the Morse looks great, but I don't like floyds either, I'm not fan of the Luke's neck or pickups.

Yep. And that's not the only dillema! :D I don't know where to buy it! The Croatian dealer is out of the question (prices, service, you name it), so I'm left with buying abroad, ordering from an Internet shop that ships to Croatia, or buy used.

Thanks people! Interesting, though. I thought it's gonna be a "Luke, Luke, Luke, +1, +2, +3, +5..." thread. :D

BTW Beej, sorry, but my bad English forbids me to understand your post.

@ His Reverence - I know of evilBay, but if I'm gonna buy used, I think it's gonna be somewhere near, so I can try the guitar first. If it's new, the broader the area of buying will be. :D

Currently there's a used purple Luke in the newspaper adds. Sells for $1660, which is pretty darn cheap, but I doubt it will still be for sale by the time I'm gonna be buying anything. Now it's info-gathering time.

I think EB should seriously rethink their dealer in Croatia.
Like Junior said, their prices are way too high and they are very unkind to the customers!!!

I've never tried a standard silo (much to my shame) but I can whole-hartedly agree that the Axis Super Sport should be on your list.

Junior-

Saw your dealer thread post so thought I'd chime in here. Have you considered a used EBMM? That's how I got my first few. Really, there are some awesome pieces used that you can get for reasonable amounts. (There is a killer Y2D in the 'for sale' thread right now!).

Gets you a guitar at a great price and you don't have to deal with your dealer. And, if you don't bond with it you can sell it for the same price so it's low risk.
