Has anybody had their Axis re-fretted somewhere other than the factory? If so, which fret wire did you use? AFAIK, the factory uses a wire that is around .095x.047. Has anybody tried stainless or a Dunlop 6105 sized wire (.090x.055)?

I just had 6105 stainless steel frets installed on my Sub1.
I LOVE it but it is ALOT taller than the fret wire on my Axis.
If I refret my axis I will go with a wire somewhere between the stock wire and the 6105 wire just to keep the feel closer to the stock feel.
I LOVE the stainless steel wire as is is SO SMOOTH to bend on.
Hope that this helps you out.
PS the guy that did my frets is AWESOME the fret dress is perfect!!!!!:D

I opted for non-stainless jumbos when I refretted my Axis to help facilitate bends. Do a search here for stainless frets and you'll find some discussions pro and con. One thing to keep in mind is many luthiers do not work with stainless as it wears their tools out quickly.

There isn't much available between the two sizes. Dunlop 6105 is .090x.055 and Warmoth 6105 is .096x.047 (other vendors call this size 6125). Stew-Mac makes an .092x.048 and a .100x.050.

Here's a good web site that details the different fret sizes...

I just had my BFR Axis re-fretted with Jescar 6105 gold EVO wire (.090x.055). The work was done by master guitarsmith Richard Stanley in Concord, MA. This tall and narrow wire is fantastic on the Axis... much easier to play.

Jescar wire is made in Germany. The gold EVO wire contains no nickel and is rated at a hardness of 250 (standard nickel wire is 180-200 and stainless steel is 300). JESCAR Fret Wire

You can read an interview with Mr. Stanley here... Luthier Interviews: Richard Stanley
