Hey Everyone, first post here. I've been looking at getting a new guitar recently, and I've gotten it down to two choices. The Steve Morse Y2D in the purple/pink burst or a JP6. I was hoping I could get some insight on which guitar plays better, and what guitar could handle playing metal/death metal better. Thanks!

I assume your not talking BFR Petrucci which makes things a little different...

I've had both a Y2D and a JP. IMHO both can play the role of metal machine.

Bodies - I felt the JP6 body more comfortable.
Necks - the Morse neck was more comfy to me.

Tones wise the Morse is more versatile. (unless you get a piezo with the Pet, then with the ability to blend things get interesting... ) The Std Morse even more so.

If you prefer a trem the Petrucci is the way to go. Other wise the Morse reigns the day.

Either way once you have one I predict you will wage an all out campaign to capture the other. :)

Welcome to the forum!!!

Both are awesome and very capable guitars.
But they are very different. Have you have a change to try them???
For the longest time I wanted a Morse. But then I tried one and found that the neck didn't suit me personally. I found it a little narrow for me.
The Petrucci neck is more of a shredder guitar. Much flatter.

I've played a used JP6 very briefly at a local guitar center and really liked it. I haven't had a chance to play a Morse, no places carry Music Man's around here.

I was just reading your first post again.

The Petrucci would cover the death metal best. Hands down.

Yeah, the Axis has the highest output pickups in the MM lineup. Killer bite!

My vote goes JP7, in your case. That extra low end will just tear through everything.
