I know that the pickups in the (standard) Stingray and Sterling are both different, but does this translate over to the SUB's? There is the passive pickup done separately, but between the normal active SUB and the Sterling model are the pickups used just the same in each case, or are they the differen tpickups as in the normal models?

Ahem, I don't know the answer to your questions, but i do know there is no such thing as an active MM pick up. So active or passive sub doesn't matter, they both got the same excellent pick up:)

If the Stingray doesn't have active pickups, why do you need to use a 9v battery?

It's been said before, but i'll let the cat out of the bag again... the pickups in the 4-string SUBs are the EXACT SAME as the ones in any other 4-string MM bass. The preamp is the EXACT SAME one (2-band only) in a SUB as in a 2-band Ray. Sterlings I'm not as sure about, but the premise should hold true. Same electronics, less fancy "package".

I was under the impression that while it is the electronics that are the active part, the pickups are designed to be followed by the electronics, and the ones for the passive SUB's were different to the standard ones

what no frets said

So is that the SUB Sterling uses the same pickup as the standard Sterling, or the SUB Sterling uses the same pickup as the other SUBs (which is the same as the Stingray's pickups)?

I did read here the electronics are the same (and noticed it does have s/r5 on the board in my SUB Sterling) but still not completely sure about the actual pickups makeup

not that it makes the slightest difference when it comes to playing, as my SUB sounds awesome regardless of what is in it, just nice to know exactly what it is

Just to throw a further bit of information out... I understand that the SUB5 pickups were specially designed for the SUB5 only. They are not SR5 pickups, but actually a 5-string version of the 4-string Stingray pup, in that it is alnico instead of ceramic, as an SR5 is. Am I correct??

I had wished for a 2-band five string Stingray for a long time - and my active SUB 5 is that bass!!

Ok, to actually get the answer to my question

SUB Sterlings, which pickups, ceramic or alnico? just to clear it up and say for sure whether they use the normal sterlin pickup, or the sterlings...
