Hej. So my stock pickup is broken (one coil is not working - so there is just single coil mode. I thought thats maybe the switch..but took out this pup and checked it with multimeter, tried to fix it but ....) .
And I know , I know that another oryginal musicman sterling pup is the best option, but .
Its reaaaalllyy expensive here in norway (I checked with MusicMan dealer for this area).
So thinking about other options have few questions (went through a lot of threads but still a lot of question marks..) :

1.NORDSTRAND MM4.3 - I like nordstrand pups so much and this one is with phantom coil should be really good replacement but its not easy to get one nowadays and with extra custom fee its quite expensive ..so whats about MM4.2 which is easier to get and parallel/series is enough for me..is it going to work well with sterling preamp?

2.SD basslines , ceramic, there is also version with phantom coil. Know that sound will be a bit different but those are decent pups imho but how it can works with stock preamp? Whats about the SD bass line designed for stingrays?

3.EMG ? There are some MMstyle pickups

4. Actually about any stingray style alnico pup - how complicated can be instalation using the sterling switch ..or maybe without the switch just solder it directly to the preamp ( can it be like in classic sterling serie- just parallel or series and tone knobs?

Generally Im looking for decent and 'as cheap as possible' pickup, I think I like even more alnico than ceramic (but love sterling neck and size:) and I usually use flats , so thanx in advance for any help:) Or maybe someone has smth to sell , used ones, and can send up to Norway ?

I really would not cut anny corners on this job. Save up a bit longer and do a propper repair. Nordstrand are propably the best option. But is the price really that much lower than the real deal? We are talking about a 1000!€ bass here so why put a 150€ pickup in it when it changes the sound drasticly and when you can get a new one for 250€.
I dont know what actual pricing is and i know its not gonna be cheap but i would keep it original at almost anny cost. As for reaplacing it with alnico's, i propably wouldnt do that eighter. The preamp isnt build and voiced for them so not sure if you would get a decent sound...

in your case i would go with 2 options
- get the pickup to a tech and have a repair done
- if you think your ebmm dealer is asking too much. Contact ebmm customer service! And get a new original pu.
