Which Strap Locks fit stock MM buttons?

I sent a message to EBMM customer service today, but I also wanted to pick everyones brains here.

I have a EBMM JP6, and my wife bought me a set of Fender strap locks at our local music store after hearing me say that I wanted to get some. The Fender ones don't fit the EBMM factory installed strap button. I could use the supplied buttons (with the EBMM screws as advised by Dan at EBMM customer service), but I'd rather just buy a brand that fits right out of the package.

So which strap locks fit the factory installed EBMM strap buttons?

If you can I would return the Fender Strap Loks & buy a set of original Schallers which are basically the same. If you can't return them, just sell them on Ebay. I have a set of strap lok buttons off of a Fender Strat & they did not fit the EBMM screws as well.

I use the regular Schaller strap loks on my JP6 with the original EBMM strap button screw fine. In fact it fit perfectly.

Schaller strap locks work well, but you have to replace the buttons...unless they fit perfectly

I don't think there is a straplock system which fits the existing buttons. To get a lock system, you can keep the screws but the buttons have to go - simple as that

Exactly what I use on my guitars- the original EBMM buttons look better but you don't want your prized possessions hitting the floor

i REALLY like these things.....simple , cheap, they look fine, & they work VERY well w/ any strap. i think they should be stock.

I've always used the Dunlop strap locks... they don't work on the stock buttons, but they're well worth the effort to put in.

Hey Hey Hey HEY! That one hurt.....but, I did not drop the guitar. It was in the stand and got yanked off by my dog.......almost sounds like the typical school story of "How the dog ate my homework".....but, that is how it happend. I must say, the strap locks I use (Schaller) work very well.

But, sir, you are correct. It will run me $400 if not more.........

About ten years ago I was playing at home and I leaned my Les Paul against a wall resting on the string posts. (I know - stupid) My then 2 year old daughter comes along and decides if daddy can play so can she. It slid down the wall and crashed into a table on the neck. It was never the same even after a repaired neck. Lesson learned. If it's not in my hands - it's in the case locked.

I ended up buying the Schallers last night and very carefully removing and replacing the stock ones (keeping the EBMM screws)

Note to EBMM designers/development: Put a strap button on the guitar right in production that's ready made to fit a certain brand - then tell us what brand it is in the specs page. Thanks

I've always used the Dunlop strap locks... they don't work on the stock buttons, but they're well worth the effort to put in.

I use these as well. The screws are really long and it takes a while to tighten.

The buttons come in black and bronze, too. The bronze ones (put on a les paul I had and sold) discolored really fast here near the ocean.

The black ones look REALLY cool. I got them on my sunburst luke and honeyburst Albert.

I had the Schallers, but recently switched to the Dunlop system. I didn't care for the way the Schaller's had to be installed on the strap and I was a little leery of the "U" mechanism. Probably over anal about it, but what they hey. I don't know of many brands of straplocks that will work with the original buttons other than possibly the Fender.

Hey Koogs... Not to rub salt into the wound, but I just recently had the neck on my Petrucci replaced due to a backbow issue. It took the factory about 3 weeks to make a new one, and when the guitar came back it had the invoice in the case. The neck alone, no inlays or painted headstock was $300. I have no idea how much time Jon had to put into it afterwards, but I would think at least 2 hours labor and then shipping both ways. OUCH!!!! That's one hard and expensive way to learn a lesson. Hang in there bud...

Yeah I've had good luck with them since I started using them. I put the screws in with a toothpick or two stuffed in the holes too, then a bit of wood glue on the screw. It is not coming out of there unless I take it out. I've got black one's on other guitars, but my Axis I put silver on, to match the rest of the hardware, they look good.

why be leery of the "u" mechanism....if you installed the strapside components correctly, the strap button sits in the "u"....almost impossible for it to fall out since the guitar is sitting securely in the strap....I don't like the dunlops since I've had them fall out in the past, plus they don't have a low profile unless you countersink them in the guitar's body...fender straplocks = schaller straplocks btw.

I had "heard" that the Schaller's have broken at the "U" part. I wasn't sure if that those parts were machined or what we used to call "pot" metal. Although I guess you can break pretty much anything if you put your mind to it.

Like I said I probably over analyzed it, though hey, what's $13, go buy the Dunlops and try them. Liked the ball bearing release mechanism. Go figure.

Didn't realize that Fender Straplocks = Schaller. 'preciate the info.

I guess I was thinking about the plastic disc looking ones that attach to your strap and have sort of a spring clip action that goes over the original strap button and locks in place.

I used shallers once, on an Ibanez guitar I had ... it did break, the metal parts, not the screw coming out. That prompted me to try the dunlops after that. I like the design of the shaller, and I think the dunlops do stick out a bit too far unless they're recessed, but they never let go, and I can't imagine them breaking. Just make sure the screws are in very securely. Although, I guess that's true for any strap button, locking or otherwise.

I found a satisfactory solution for myself that doesn't involve any modifications of the instrument, and is cheap. It probably isn't as reliable as real straplocks, but still.

Yeah, I know it is going cost me. I just threw out a rough estimate. Awaiting a price right now......and Jon is answering a few questions for me about a few things as well.
