Hi, im soon to be fixing my Vintage Metal Axxe Reaper, and I want to keep this guitar in the tuning of drop C . . . can anyone tell me what gauge strings i should use, or which Ernie Ball string pack i should buy?

I also want to buy some new strings for my signature guitar (dont ask what it is because i have no idea . . . just a prototype of a guitar that was too expensive to put into production). I play in standard tuning and drop D with this guitar, as I have an origonal floyd rose floating trem and locking bolts. At the moment I have the Earnie Ball Super Slinky pack on my guitar, but it just doesnt feel right, so i'll need to know what to buy for this guitar too.

Thanks :)

Skinny Top Heavies ftw.

I never use anything else. I go down to drop C with them occasionaly aswell as Eb.

I'd say the Not Even Slinkies. I use them in standard C tuning and they're great. Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms might be better if you want some bending freedom on the upper strings, though.

For Ska/Reggae, I use STHB 10-52's. They beef up the tone alot.

Get a Fender 50's stratocaster and then your set for Ska/Reggae

Elixir are very good, they last a hella long time. I never really used them for long enough to give a full review on them.

Stick with EB's :p

For 7 strings stuff, get a Dean Razorback 7 String. Much better guitar.

+1 on the Jeff Loomis stuff.

I dont realy like the shape of the Dean Razorback. They look too much like something B.C rich would make and i think they sound horrible.

I expect B.C rich to be more of a rhythm sound rather than a cutting lead sound, like most schecter guitars in the diamond series. :) I was tempted to buy a Damien c-1 fr . . . but i like to have EMGs packed in with the guitar.

I have EMGs, an origonal floyd rose and the nut on my current guitar, but i love the finish on the hellraiser c-1, c-7 and c-8, plus they have coil tap pickups which is a HUGE bonus :)

Over on the Dean guitars forum, we talk about other brands, but no promote them as much. Its not so 'strict' then, and it helps bring the forum closer together.

I'm sure you play other brands, so don't say its not cool.

I have Ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom and they are fantastic. You get hefty power chords, while your high strings are size 10 so they're easy to bend. The bottom strings Are 12s which is good for down tuning

12's? they're 10-52.

The bottom half of the STHB are 11's. They are very nice for down-tuning, drop D is very nice, so is standard Eb or drop Db. Standard D is fine. You can even get away with crazier things like CGDGBE or C#G#C#F#BE. For standard tuning I think 10s are better.

Of course it all depends on the scale of your guitar.

About that razorback, my friend has a 6 string version . . Its got amazing tone with the emg's he's got on it (81 85) and a V shape neck haha, which is surprisingly comfy to play. Yet the frets seem a bit weird. Probably because I'm not used to using it.

Does anyone know anything about the 'signature' guitar company? Or a guitar manifacturer that has made a guitar with no company name or model number/name?
