The activity on the thred about my newly aquired Silhouette got me thinking, who here has the oldest EBMM guitar?

My silhouette is an '88, with Schaller trem, and a six bolt, non-recessed neck plate. For an EB, it is definitely on the primitive side.

Next question, I am new to EB guitars. Being a fender/gibson guy my whole life, I got way into the vintage thing for a long time. Is there any inherent "cool" factor or extra value attached to a "vintage" EB?

Hey jakedog... I've got a six-bolt Silhouette that's a couple years younger than yours... It does have the finished neck, but it's got the later Dimarzio pickups and it's a hardtail. I like it a lot, but I don't think there's any particular caché to having an older EBMM unless it's an EVH... I have read a comparison of older and newer Silhouettes in the "Oldies" section of Guitarist Magazine (UK) a couple years back - in fact, that was where I first saw a Sil. with the Schaller hardware including tremolo - and it concluded that the older Schaller trem-equipped Sil. was actually a little rougher around the edges than the later models in terms of fit and finish. I don't really see that in mine, but they felt the model had been subtley "refined" over the first couple years of production. fyi...

Idunno about who has the oldest EB, but I found an ancient Music Man amp buried in one of the back rooms on Thursday. I'll take it home and snap some pics, its a tube amp circa 70's ? and it's missing the speaker, and some of the wooden cab has started to break off. Would be a cool piece to restore :D
