Meredith Brooks, hands down! Talented, cool, very musical, and I really dig her music... doesn't hurt that she's AB-SO-FREAKIN'-LUTELY GORGEOUS either, but in my defense I was groovin' to her tunes long before I saw her live at Lilith and learned what she looked like... :D

Others high on my appreciation list include Debbie Davies and Susan Tedeschi, and Sean Colvin can really, really finger pick an acoustic (and she's probably my fave song-writer of the lot!)...

I've got to go with Nancy Wilson. A great player and beautiful. And she peforms like she was born to do it. Not like a pretty girl holding a guitar on stage.

yes i know what you mean. It seems there are singers and the manager (?) gives them a guitar to hold. Just doesn't look right.

Jamie Lee Curtis:D

Or maybe Charo.

LOL I was thinking about them

Actually Charo is pretty good flamenco player.
Ever see her mom on Carol Burnett ? funny stuff.

What i don't understand is how someone can play with long nails.
I cut mine right down past the tips on my left hand or else they get in the way. I find if I don't I keep snagging them on the strings but keep them long on my right so i can pluck classical style.
I wear no jewlery or even a watch when i play. I find they get in the way.

Joni Mitchell has done some really good stuff. She does alot of alternative tunings.

As a female guitar player, it's sad to say that there aren't that many that rock my world. A few that do though are Jennifer Batten and Wendy Melvoin. Completely different players, but extremely talented in what they do. I went through a hardcore Prince phase in the early 90's and my friends started refering to me as 'Little Wendy.' I wish...

Another really good female guitar player I've seen live is Liz Melendez. She's the chick version of SRV, but she does it very well. She's been doing a lot of touring in little clubs in the south-east. Go see her if she's playing in a town near you. Very impressive.

Shnook do you keep your nails long ?

No, I'm a nail nibbler by nature. Not too proud of the fact, but oh well. I don't understand how anyone plays with long finger nails either. I can't stand the feeling of my finger nail touching the fretboard. Yuck!

I am a bit dubious of girls that are long nailed guitar players

I like Lita Ford, and Nancy Wilson because they look GREAT. They are also pretty good, but I would have to give the best player prize to Bonnie Raitt. She is probably one of the best slide guitarists I've heard.

Jennifer Batten is amazing. I saw her a few years ago on tour alongside Jeff Beck and she almost upstaged the man.
