the EB group III flats are spectacular and age like a fine wine. it actually ticked me off when i had to get new strings, my own error of course but still ticked me off. i prefer maple with flatwounds now above all other combinations too. i cant really say anything towards tension or anything of the sort because i never really noticed a difference but i can say regardless of differences in tension flatwound playing will feel different from roundwound playing, its the nature of the flats! but they're wonderful and in my opinion flatwounds make the bass sound the way it was meant to sound.

Wow, just ordered a set of GIII's from strings Direct for £29.99 inc free delivery. I get all my strings from this place.
On the EB UK site they want £42.95. Thats ridiculous IMO and a complete rip off.

Does anyone have any sound clips or can point me in the right direction to hearing some flats on a SR4 online.

Thanks.

We are using the Group 2 on my wifes Sterling. She is quite happy with them. I perfer roundwounds mostly but am happy with how the Sterling is sounding. JOSH

I was using Group II's, but recently started using group IIIs. The IIs can be a little too thuddy.

I've even noticed that my .105 E string rounds can get a little thuddy...and this is with my Markbass Rig eq'd flat.

My group III's arrived yesterday and I now have them on my Ray34.
And yes, very much like chromes as far as feel goes.
I've got my action down to 2mm and the bass feels a lot faster to play now.
I've got 2 gigs this weekend so i'll get to give them a good play. They do sound nice and punchy through my PC and I expect even better through my rig.
I'm not sure how long I'll keep them on though, I tend to miss rounds after a while but I'll give them a few months at least. I can always put them back on later if i take them off.
