but... this was in my last band where (because of the lead singer; his band) we played all songs the exact same way every time. I would just settle in, stand close to my rig to "feel" my bass, and listen to all mid/high range sublties of my sound via the in-ears. I would have only my bass in them, and only put one in leaving my other ear open to ear the rest of the band.

I tried with both in, with a band mix from the board, but it sounded too good, and it felt like I was sitting in my room playing along with a CD. I felt way too isolated this way...

I don't use the in-ears in the band I'm in now. It is more spontaneous and jam-oriented, and although I can't hear my bass as well as I'd like, I don't know if I could "connect" with the rest of the band as well. I REALLY liked how well I could hear my bass before though, so I'm thinking of going back to using the in-ears all the time.

Oh, and my HH SR4 should be here next week... Jason

I'm thinking about buying some in-ear monitors. After last Saturday night of standing right next to one of the mains, I wasn't sure I would be able to hear out of my left ear again. Seems to have recovered now, but I don't want to do that again. I hate ear plugs. I don't like the muffled sound you get with them. Just give me your input before I spend $500+ on one of these systems.

I Use the Shure E5's and the West Tone ones and I get incredible Low End Out of both, Much better once we hired a real Sound Engineer.

The Cons for me we're this: Condinsation builds up inside of them and one side will shut off, You also miss some of the connection feedback with the crowd because it now becomes sounding like a live CD. But at Any rate they are pretty good.

PS: Don't go by what your hearing from the New Country Artist's out of Nashville, Their Pitch Problem is not the in ear Monitors, thier Pitch Correction machines aren't on. DJ

Used them for a while, but what we really needed was a truly independent mix for every performer, and that is EXPENSIVE (multiple mix busses, multiple EQ) and requires a lot more gear than we were willing to buy.

Once we got to that point we ditched our entire PA and all our amps and bought two Bose PASes. We've never looked back, and are very, very happy now.

Larry,
yep, custom molded ear plugs sound like the best route to go for you. In one of the gigs I have we all use in-ears and are using the Aviom personal mixer system too(the only way to go unless you can afford a full-time monitor guy)
anywho, the in-ears are fun and work great but unless everyone's using them and little or no amps on stage I'd say just go with the molded ear-plugs and go with a -15db filter. works nice.
