My pal Bob Nyswonger went to see R. Fripp last night and says this about the opening act:

"Porcupine Tree is an excellent band...I liked them a lot for not knowing their music at all. The sound was a little overdone for my taste. Jack, you'll be pleased to hear the bassist was on a stealth Bongo 4 banger. It sounded friggin' huge..."

Should I be a fan?

Small world. I was in a taxi on Friday night, on my way to town to get drunk, and I was talking music with the taxi driver. He was telling me about this band and actually had some of their stuff on his CD changer. He played me a few tracks, I thought they were pretty good, a little trancey though.

The band is led by Richard Barbieri, ex keyboard player for Japan(Mick Karn and David Sylvian)

Jack,

Do you like progressive rock? PT has a song called Blackest Eyes that I think is fantastic. My friend that is really into prog rock burned me a bunch of their songs on CDR. I think they're an excellent band but they're a little TOO proggy for my taste. I'll send you Blackest Eyes if you want after I get my internet connection back up at home... I just moved.

By the way, PT's bassist was playing a Wal for years. Glad to hear he's using a Bongo. Just goes to show.

They are a new endorsee by way of strings for the guitarist Steven Wilson. They expressed interest in the Bongo and we sent one out on Friday.

that's a sign i'm getting older. not keeping up with the concert scene. i definately would have gone to see them.

i heard ".3" on Radio Paradise (an internet radio station) and downloaded their CD "In Absentia" into my iTunes. the album has a nice acoustic and electric mix. some songs are powered by wailing guitars, while others have soothing piano and vocals. i like.
