I'm a little bit country...

Currently working on Hot Tuna's version of Blue Moon of Kentucky - including a 'bass solo' to close the 2nd break...

This is gonna be very nice on the fretless Bongo! :D

When the Ray comes in, I'm throwin' flats on there so I can woodshed the 70's R&B that I don't cover on my P-Bass (Chic, BT Express, etc.).

As far as the Bongo, we'll just have to see what I use that for...probably originals, classic rock, and jam nights.

I'm leaving the Slinky's on there; need at least one bass with an edgy sound.

I'm not a bass player(no sloping forehead etc:p ) but I am trying to learn ANYTHING that Tony Macalpine plays, and it's been more of a workout than I get at the gym. Bunny Brunel is one mofo on the bass as well!

With Tony, I have to ask... are you talking guitar or piano? He's devastating on either one! Love that wide vibrato of his technique.

'Get Ready' Rare Earth
'Going to a go go' Smokey Robinson

Plus:-

The Church Band that I'm in is currently recording a CD so I'm keeping all the songs going so that I don't embarass myself when the headphones get slapped on. The songs are originals written by one of the band members.

We're in a kind of hibernating state, getting together only to rehearse for the few shows we have booked.

I've been trying to learn every Iron Maiden song since I started playing bass. I know it's not the most technically challenging thing in the world but it sure is fun.

What?!?! Steve Harris, IMHO, is one of the best finger players in the metal genre. Quite challenging for the speed. (Technically, not the best, but dude can play) You picked a great band to learn.......love me some Iron Maiden!

Really I don't work too hard on covers until I am with the band and we all have a chance to get tight. What I practice is triads and extended triads in their various forms along with just thumping out some blues when I get to needing some play time.

I think I am a blues player at heart and always have been when I am not doing bluegrass. :)

I like it all really makes it fun.

I definately agree with ya there koogie, but compared to what some guys here do, all kinds of slapping, harmonics, tapping etc. It's not all to difficult, but trying to do those galloping triplets with 2 fingers is something else lol. Oh well, Up the Irons!

A bunch of original stuff - my band (Space Heaters) is in a writing mode. We've got recording time this summer, so getting ready for that.

Otherwise - a slow, funky version of 'you can't always get what you want' that jams into 'feelin' alright'

Sitting at home, lots of early Crusaders and Wilton Felder funkiness...

Currently playing to a aebersold cd my teacher gave me, based on the music by "Andy Laverne". i would call it hardcore jazz, and some of the chord changes are downright weird, but the pieces have a great vibe.

also, i play at church, so i'm always having to learn new songs. it can be quite fun and keeps me on my toes.:D

I agree with that....dudes here got the slapping, harmonics and what not down. I could never imagine Iron Maiden doing that.......me, personally, I'm just a hack that plays bass with a pick! :D

Yep, those gallops are quite the challenge.....LOL:cool:

for the galloping part use three fingers like Steve does. Think of the technique as something similar to tapping your fingers on your desk - kind of roll them in succession. It will take some practice, but it will be much easier that way.

+1

Ring-finger -> middle-finger -> index-finger -> repeat :D

Run to the hills!

I have always been impressed by Steve Harris' ability to play everything so fast and with such sharp articulation with his fingers...
