Anyone know why the Axis Supersport with MM90's has an ash body (under the maple cap) whereas the humbuckers get basswood? Obviously the wood plays a role but I'd like to understand why MM90's arent fitted onto basswood?
I would assume it is because Ash seems to take better to a single coil like the MM90. I have an Ash Sport with dual Hum and I had a Ash Sport with MM90 and all sound distinctively different from the mid range heavy Axis or EVH. I think it is just a tone thing since Ash sends to be a little brighter then bass wood and that goes very well with the big bell like tone you want to get out of the MM90.
