I was wondering since those dimarzio's were custom wound for the axis guitars construction(basswood/maple cap, all maple neck, floyd trem, etc) why they were also used on the mahogany AL and the chambered reflex?
I love those pu's and have a mahogany guitar which is similar to the albert lee in construction
so i take it these dimarzio will sound real good in mahogany?
I have a set and am trying to decide which of my guitars to put them in?
My mahogany one or alder? both have all maple necks?

My guess it has to do with how versatile those pickups are. I have 2 Axis, 1 Axis Sport (ash body) and a HHAL. The tone is incredible in all of them. It's a testament to those pickup.

The AL HH has been my no.1 guitar since the day I bought it and I'm sure the pick-ups have a lot to do with that.

Sometimes I'll go through a spell of playing some of the other makes I own but when I go back to the AL I'm always impressed with how good it sounds compared to the others. Quite simply the best guitar I've ever owned.

I own all three guitars and though they all have the same pups the tone of each model differs rather vastly due to the woods used and construction design of each guitar. The 25th/Reflex has a Basswood chambered body with a maple cap and mahogany tone block and due to the construction of the guitar and control design, is IMHO one of the most versatile guitars you will find. The 5 way selector with toggle lets you put the guitar in a variety of parallel/series configurations. The AL-HH has a Mahogany body with a rosewood neck and the tone on that model is a bit darker and very warm sounding. The EVH/Axis with it's Basswood body and maple cap is the ultimate 'Hard Rock' machine when used for what it does best and again in 'IMPO' has the best set of pups of the three incarnations of that model which clean up nicely which really doesn't make the guitar a one trick pony. But any guitar that has the absence on a 'Tone' knob is not going to be as versatile as one that has one where you can roll back the tone knob to cut back on some of the high end.All you would have to do is go on Youtube and here a demo of each model to hear how different each one sounds.

I installed these in the mahogany guitar and i completely agree these dimarzio's are hands down the best ones i have tried in a guitar other than a axis.
The guitar i put them in has such a broad tone now, and it is picking up a lot of overtones and harmonics now.
I may try them on one of my alder strats?
I don't agree with some that say these are super high output.
These are a little hotter than a air zone and air norton set.
definitely less the a tone zone and regular norton.

I am just repeating what you have all said here but I agree these pups are the best, I love the neck pup especially.
