After 1976 Leo removed the .01uf capacitor that went from the bottom lug of the treble pot to ground. Anybody know why he did that? Does the cap suck too many highs to ground?

Leo changed the preamp electronics I see. I thought he might have yanked off the cap and kept the preamp because too much highs were being sucked to ground. thanks

i heard he was hard of hearing when it came to treble range sounds...on the other hand i have no idea what you're talking about besides leo fender tweaking the treble end of the preamp lol

the first run of the '76 StingRays Leo put a .01uf cap on the treble pot. I thought he might have took off the cap and kept the same preamp, but he changed the design. I was gonna put a .01uf cap on the pot to hear what it sounds like. and maybe addng a switch to for cap/bypass. since he changed the design of the preamp, adding the cap wouldn't be feasible

Wasn't the capacitor just moved to the circuit board? You need a capacitor connected to the treble pot somewhere. The resistance of the treble pot determines how much signal is sent through the capacitor and ultimately to ground.

I built a preamp from the 1978-79 schematic and there isn't a .01uf cap on the board. when Leo deleted the cap he routed the lug connection to a 500pf cap on the board. he must have changed the parts in the revision. I never found a schematic of the 1976 preamp to compare it to

if i remember correctly i think it was tommy walker who designed the preamp leo may have changed it or something but i remember hearing the trebble range was a big source of problems with leo's hearing problems. apparently things that were insanely bright to us, sounded "like honey" to him.

I like honey...at least we get a lot of treble to play with on our basses if we ever need it;)
