So I head over to GC today to go play a Bongo for the helluvit whilst I'm waiting for mine.

Can any geeky engineer luthier type person tell me why in world EBMM's feel so good?

Why is the touch and the feel so easy to play? I know the action can be set low and the quality control are exceptional, but when even when I play the American F's, the W^rw!cks, and other similarly priced basses, they just feel heavy to the touch (not just the weight), and just go "thud". And this is with what I was told are new strings.

I honestly think the only other bass that I have played that has a similar playability in this price range was an American Peavey Bass. Weird, eh?

Other basses definitely feel different. Part of the reason I love EBMMS is the finish on the neck (stingrays/sterlings). Very comfortable. I dont like thick lacquer/gloss finishes that feel sticky. EBMMs just feel very solid to me. I can feel the vibrations and they feel very centered and focused. On a lot of other basses, the natural resonance of the instrument just isnt as good.

hey GassieBall ... quick heads up: I edited your post to remove the price.

You didnt specifically post GC's street price for the Bongo but it was hinted at due to how you worded your sentence. as a rule of thumb MM doesn't like having street price posted on the forum... full retail & used prices are ok tho.

hope u don't mind

Oops, sorry. Thanks. My bad. I wasn't thinking since I was considering it as a general category, not a specific quote.

it is the neck. it is outstanding. the sterling neck being so small as well helps small fingers like me. But really it is the 8th wonder of the world. potatoes come in at nine due to their versatility.

Ernie Balls are uniformly well-made with a professional touch of class that is just lacking in every other instrument in their price range. You never feel as if a corner was cut on an Ernie Ball. They are a testament to the craftsmen that work in the factory at SLO.
