Just wondering. Most other manufacturers offer quilted or flame tops for there basses.

I've seen some anniversary SR4's with quilted tops and they're amazing.

EB has this option on some guitars. Why not basses?

I'd love an SR5 in honey burst with a AAAAA quilted top and no pick guard.

Oh and make that a new dual H model. :D

Any time you add options like that, you raise the overall BASE price of an instrument--before you even factor in the expense for the options. You not only have to keep the fancy tops in stock, you also have to stop the production line batches to produce the one off fancy topped instruments. SO, you're looking at slowing down the entire process of building instruments.

My guess is that EB has decided that optional fancy tops don't fit with the price structure that they've set up with for their basses.

Fancy tops?!?!? We don't need no fancy tops!!! Seriously, the EB bass line up looks great as it is... yeah a AAAAA flame top would be nice but I would be too worried about taking it out. Most of us want functional basses that look good and sound GREAT (and not have to worry about a ding here and there).

As for the guitar option... that is just to please their huge egos :D

If MM came out with a quilted top Bongo, Sterling, SR, SR5, etc. I would be the first in line. C'mon, around these parts, who wouldn't want one? Just like we drool over buttercream (that doesn't sound right, but anyways) I have the feeling we'd be drooling over a quilted top.

Yeah but I think there would be a big market for more of these

Put me in the "wouldn't want one" column. To me, the Bongo would look ridiculous with a quited top. Just like I think a Ferrari would look horrible with wood paneling.

Some basses look great with figured woods, just like some cars look great with wood paneling. :D

Yes, but what about a StingRay! Just dreaming here. Not expecting BP to cater to the whims of MM maniacs.

Is that dream boat yours?

Heh, I wish that car was mine. As it is, though, Google Images is your friend. :D

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the neck profile on the Stingrays, so I wouldn't buy one of them, either (Recent NAMM prototype pictures aside). :p Once the GAS cloud cleared, I was able to zone in on my original plan--the single H Bongo to complete the trifecta.

I agree with you on the Bongo quilted top assessment. It'd look rather odd. I threw it out there 'cuz I got Bongo Love.

Let me know about that Single H when you get it. I'm considering one as well. I'd order one just to find out but I got major expenses coming up the next two months.
