Was playing around in garageband today. Under the real instrument window you can assign a symbol to the instrument. Perusing the list I see bongos, the percussive type but no MM Bongo. What gives?

HAHA. I'm getting Logic Express soon. It's been shipped, just waiting for it. I'll let you know if it has it. If not, maybe there is a way to add your own symbols. :/

I have an M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface. I usually go either direct out from a head or use a DI box between bass and interface.

what do you guys use for plugging real instruments into garage band....I tried just a cable and it sucked.

If you use just a cable, you'll need to use one of GarageBand's software amplifiers. It's the only way to jack up the signal inside the software. What I've done is run an XLS -> 1/4" -> 1/4" to 1/8" adapter so I can use the preamp from my head.

This is good info . I just bought a MacBook a little over a month ago and am just starting to delve into Garageband. I've been a PC guy my whole life so there is definitely a learning curve ! (I NEED TO RIGHT CLICK!!)

Two fingers on trackpad, then click. Easy as pie.

I have a MacBook (last year's model) and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Same here. I have a MacBook, and have used a MacMini, PowerBook, Mac Pro, and an iMac and am more than willing to help with Mac questions. Feel free to IM me if you want.

This is really cool. I've had my first ever Mac (a Macbook Pro) for all of 2 weeks now (it's a work computer) after years of PC's and getting increasingly annoyed with them. Moved all my stuff over to it in an afternoon no problem and I love it to bits. Got it home and messed around with garageband with my eldest son and was wondering what sort of firewire box to get so I can hook the Ray into it. Thinking long term I'm planning to get either an iMac or a Big Mac :)D) (before or after the Bongo?? :( ) and set up a proper home recording studio. I reckon our entire house will move to Macs based on our experience with this one...

I've been doing most of my bass recording with a Phil Jones Bass Buddy into either an M-Audio Firewire 410, an RME Fireface 800 or an Apogee AD-16, depending on where I'm at.

Nice combination.

I love my Macbook Pro. I am actually getting Logic Express Pro sometime soon, so then we can actually record some of the stuff my band is doing.

Get some Digidesign Gear running Protools LE......whatever you can afford at the time really. You'll never look back. Don't know about compatibility with Garageband, but works great with Ableton.
